New Xbox 360 Pad Confirmed

Microsoft’s Major Nelson has confirmed that a new Xbox 360 controller is indeed on the way – featuring white with grey buttons and a metallic d-pad.  The controller is set to arrive on November 9th 2010 in the US for $64.99, whilst Europe will be getting it some time in February.

As rumoured earlier, the pad will feature a new and improved patented d-pad which can be manipulated and raised for better control by ‘twisting’ it.

  1. If they’ve addressed the d-pad, great stuff. It’s horrendous. Hope that image isn’t real, though. They’ve lost the colours to the buttons. :-\ Plus, wow… what a price!

  2. So is it just a recolour or does it have some new features?

    • Didn’t bother to read the artcile then?

  3. The same concept as the ps3’s d-pad… a bit late to the game msoft…

  4. Should MS really be launching a new controller considering Kinect’s message of ‘one controller is too many’ If that is true then people certainly wont be spending upwards of $60 on it simply for a new colour scheme. Mixed messages MS, mixed messages.

    • Ah, they’ve just announced that you need this one to control Kinect. ;-)

    • First of all, it’s not just a new color scheme, as stated in the artivle, it supposidly has an improved dpad, which the 360 controller desperatley needs.

And to suggest that MS should stop selling/improving their controllers because of Kinect it silly. They’re pushing Kinect as a controller free device, not the 36o in general.

  5. This still looks like the face of a many-eyed alien.

  6. Hmmm wow, that seems pointless to me ???

  7. It’s interesting giving some attention to the D-pad, I often use it in games for item/weapon selection but I’d almost forgotten it could still be used for movement as i go for the analog stick every time. Mind you, probaly explains why i’m not great at fighting games..

  8. on recent form, ms will now cease distribution of the current pads.

  9. I have a feeling that this wasn’t patented before…For a reason.

  10. I hope they do a black version with the colored buttons.

The improved d-pad sounds nice and if the elevated position makes fighting games easier/more enjoyable then that’s awesome.

The price tag doesn’t bother so much because you’re sure to be able to find it cheaper from online retailers.
