Sony has announced the release of Firmware Update 3.42 for the PS3. They haven’t gone in to much detail as to what the update actually does – with SCEA’s John Koller saying the following on the US PlayStation Blog.
“Hi everyone! A minor update to your PS3 system is now available via system software update v3.42 that includes additional security features.”
We think it’s in relation to you know what. It seems that although the EU Blog has yet to be updated, 3.42 is available in EU territories too (thanks PoolieMike).

Is this a forced update or can you still get online without it?
If it’s not forced then I’d be surprised if it’s to stop *that* ’cause people would choose to just stay on the current FW.

is there any more news about the browser update/revamp? you guys!(tsa) said it was coming very soon but that was weeks ago. Its not in 3.42 as its (browser) crashed for me after updating.
