Halo: Reach Surpasses Halo 3 Online Record

Testament to the unstoppable allure and power of the space-Spartan, Bungie’s Halo: Reach has already shattered Halo 3’s online concurrent users record. Tweeting yesterday, Bungie were in high spirits.

“Reach already surpassed the all-time highest record for Halo 3 concurrent unique users on LIVE. Woot!”

Of course, you could argue that there are more 360 users online now than ever before, a simple axiom of more people invariably equating to higher numbers. It’s still an impressive feat, however, especially considering the game is only out a matter of hours. Congrats Bungie. We’ve been playing Halo: Reach and we like it. How much, you’ll have to wait for our review.

  1. The game is pure gold. I haven’t been up playing online at 2am for ages! The campaign is brilliant so far, I’m about half way through now and cant wait for the second half.
Looking forward also to playing with Bungie this friday between 8pm and 10pm UK time, just add ReachGwDUK1-16.

  2. I read somewhere that their was 5million players playing it online at the same time.Don’t no if it’s true because i don’t have xbox360.

  3. Halo really is an unstoppable juggernaut when it comes to online play, it will be interesting to see what direction Bungie take now they are multiplatform…

  4. A huge congrats and well done to Bungie. I used to play Xbox 360 but never a Halo fan but I did enjoy Halo 3. Bungie have done really well they deserve a pat in the back ;)

  5. Awesome! I was one of them ;)

  6. Anyone who Woots needs a kick up the jacksy

    • Just had to Google ‘woot’. I’ll treat this as a sign of myself not being as nerdy anyone who does ‘woot’.

  7. Picked up a copy from HMV yesturday. Brilliant game and thoroughly deserving of its success

  8. Congratz to Bungie the Limited Edition was awesome could not afford the legendary one but it does not matter I am really happy with the game.
I am gonna spend countless hours in Forge world messing around.

Will be keeping an eye or two out for their next project.

  9. Had my first go on this about an hour ago, and all could think was “What’s up with the framerates?” it’s a bit stutterific, which wouldn’t normally be a huge issue for most games, but when you consider Halo games have always prided themselves on their smooth performance and there’s no real noticeable graphical improvement from ODST I could see, then you have to wonder what’s going on there.

    • I agree. I’ve watched a friend play it and have to say I wasn’t impressed in the slightest, the graphics are the exact same as 3 and odst exept they’ve gone overboard with this rubbish looking bluring effect. and the missions/gameplay haven’t really changed either and the A.I is too thick to drive the warthogs.

But none of that matters as blind fanboys and their websites like IGN, Destructoid and EDGE will kiss it’s ass till the cows come home!

      • Amen to that , never been a fan of this nor gears. Total hype.

      • Bitterness from people who haven’t actually played the game is often strange to me.
I wont argue that they aren’t pushing the envelope with graphics but as with any game its all about the gameplay which in this case is incredible.
I am not a ‘blind fanboy’ and also am not the biggest Halo fan but after the beta that changed somewhat and now after palying only 5hours of the campaign and about 100matches online I can see why people adore it so much and why so many people have picked it up and will play it for a long time to come.

    • The only framerate drop I’ve encountered so far is when 4 of us were playing firefight last night with infinite rockets and even that wasn’t too bad. Mind you I did install the game to the hard drive which I would imagine helps things a lot given the vast amount of content on the game disk.
