Exclusive Dead Rising 2 DLC a “Present” to 360 Fans

With the recent announcement of Case: West, yet another Xbox 360 exclusive DLC episode for Dead Rising 2, Capcom have commented on what many PS3 fans perceive as preferential treatment.

Denying it has alienated PS3 owners of the upcoming zombie title, the Japanese publisher has assured PS3 gamers that they’re not missing out on the full game, the retail title itself a self-contained story. Going further, Capcom have explained the reason behind the exclusivity offering, stating that it’s only available on Microsoft’s platform as a gift to Xbox 360 gamers who supported the first title.

Co-producer Shinsaku Ohara stated in an interview with Eurogamer:

“I think Inafune said that we’re sorry that it seems like you’re getting a little bit less of the Dead Rising 2 universe, but you’ll still be able to enjoy the full game. You’ll just miss a little bit of extra. We haven’t completely alienated PS3 gamers because Dead Rising 2 is a standalone boxed product. Dead Rising was our very first Xbox 360 title and Microsoft supported the title all the way.

At the beginning we didn’t know that this new IP would be a success, but the fans on the console really assisted in making it into one. So it’s like a present, something that we gave back to the original Dead Rising fans.”

A fair point, and though exclusive DLC for a game that is available on multiple platforms is generally frowned upon, it is a nice way to thank those who helped the game get a sequel in the first place.

Dead Rising 2 is out on Friday.

  1. Well, I’m not buying Dead Rising 2 anyway (I play games on PC and PS3). Especially without a demo.
Actually, the whole argument is bullshit. Isn’t the first game full 360 exclusive? Or on some other platform it’s been released on it had less support than on 360?

    • yeah i wont be buying it…looks ok at best to me…

played the first got bored after the initial takedowns…

    • That’s what I thought, it was an X-Box exclusive, so PS users lost out then, and to say the DLC is a reward to the X-Box users who were the only ones that could support it is ridiculous. Methinks it is financially based! And the fact he admits they haven’t “completely” alienated PS users shows even he thinks some alienation has occurred. I’m not too fussed about Case West, but Case Zero sounds pretty important to the plot and a lot of people are going to miss out on an important piece.

  2. A dubious excuse, to say the least. Katamari’s fanbase on the PS2 didn’t stop Namco from developing an exclusiev for the 360. And money makes the world go round, it always does in the end anyway.
An excuse to cover up a large amount of cash Capcom recently obtained maybe?

    • I wonder how much. Obviously PS3 version will sell a lot less than it could, so I wonder if those money make up for it.

    • Yeah, they had no problem jumping ship to xbox when the 360 came out.

They don’t give a shit about any fanbase and are just whores who just like the console with more owners, even though PS3 owners are more likely to play something more original than mindless FPS like xbox owners.

  3. It would have been nice to have been able to give Capcom the same support on the 1st title as XBox users gave them but they chose to snub us then – so we’ll snub them now by not buying the 2nd outing.

  4. Actually, this is really bullshit. Those 2 DLC are parts of DR2 story – the beginning and the ending. It’s not like Joker DLC for Batman, for example, that has nothing to do with main story. Or Jimmy DLC for Mafia.

  5. I can see what he is saying, but they should bring them too the PSN later down the line

  6. Bit silly marketing this so close to release??

  7. I bought the 1st game for my xbox, but have PSN and not Live.

    *sigh* Stupid fanboy devs…

  8. Have PS3 owners gotten any ‘presents’ for when Capcom have whored out Resident evil, DMC and lots of others to xbots? Hell no!

    • Actually, presents are FREE. Nobody’s getting presents. It’s just CAPCOM are whores. Today M$ pays and they suck it’s dick, tomorrow they can switch to whoever pays more.

      • hence the quotation marks, but I agree.

    • Terms such as “xbots” and “M$” are unwelcome around these parts. Be passionate about your hardware preference, but please do so in a mature manner.

      • I take it that includes ‘Microshit’ as well? I am 36 if that helps!

      • “Microshit”…LOL!!! That was some funny shit.

  9. That’s stupid, why would you want to alienate new fans just to favour the only people who had the choice to play the first? It’s not like PS3 owners got much opportunity to play Dead Rising.

A similar situation would be if someone brought out an album but only people who bought the old one years ago could listen to the last song, which is plain stupid.

  10. never played the game, probably never will, as im not a fan of zombie games, the idea has just been too overly used for me to enjoy it
