UK retailer GAME is claiming that their initial batch of Kinect peripherals is now sold out, and if you want one you will have to put your name down on a list so that you are first in line for when more stock arrives.
A message on GAME’s site read as follows:
“Kinect, the amazing new gizmo for Xbox 360, is selling out fast. We’ve already hit our limit for launch but you can still preorder with us right here at game.co.uk for a priority place in the queue. As soon as we have more stock in, we will make sure we get your order to you.”
We wonder how many units they had originally; selling out of a million units is great, selling out of ten units not so much. Kinect is due out in the UK next month.

They could just shut another forty or so stores – more Kinects for the ones left :)

Love the tag line “Join the queue” i wonder how big the queue will be with all the upset parents moaning about how it does not work right in there house. There will be a lot of people buying it without any previous knowledge about the product, and the conditions for it to work properly.Like room size and the right lighting and such.

It’s not ‘casuals’ buying it, it’s just internet fanboys, they’re that stupid they actually waste £120 of their own money (or mummy and daddy’s with most xbots) on this coz it’s ‘Teh awsomenezzz’ lol.
Juelz345
Well that’s a very ignorant comment.
I’m a 28 year old father of three, and I pre-ordered it. Mainly for family entertainment and social get togethers. I also have 2 sets of Move controllers so I’m obviously not “just an internet fanboy” and I have no idea WTF “Teh awesomenezzz” is.
Your comment is the very essence of “fanboyism”. Calling people stupid because they have in interest in something that you don’t, and can afford something that you probably can’t and then calling them names like xbots is not only very “Sony Fanboyish” but highly immature (or totally appropriate if you’re 12, as I suspect and hope).

OUCH! that stings….

Fair point, though. Although I’m unhappy about Juelz being younger than his stated 345 years old. Big fibber!

The thing i love about TSA is the community and the members, but every time there is a MS related article, there are a few individuals that just have to make negative (and usually unfounded) comments. Now i don’t care if people hate MS (or Sony for that matter), but when it gets to the point of name calling and drastic generalization of the people who own and support the 360, it does bug me. Save that for the rest of the internet and lets keep TSA a place where gamers, despite age or console preference, can coexist without being bashed for said preferences.

@ bunimomike
Lol, I get that a lot. It used to be Juelz26 but i couldn’t bother changing it every year, and I have a life expectancy of around 340 so I planed ahead.

taken from Play.com “Please Note: Supplies of this product are extremely limited and are under allocation by Microsoft. Therefore, we cannot guarantee to ship your order for launch. Orders of Kinect including Kinect: Adventures! are strictly limited to 1 per customer”
extremely limited… so ms are holding back stock to guarantee a sell out then.

I wonder how long it takes before Kinect turns up on BBC’s Watchdog?

These are going to sell like hot cakes to the slavering masses. It could turn out the machine runs on the tears of African orphans and people would still be climbing over each other to get one. It doesn’t matter how bad the user tests are, or how poor the games are, it has been designed and marketed in such a way to become untouchable, much like the Wii.
cc_star
“…much like the Wii.”
what, in that it provides (or provided) millions of people many millions more hours of fun?
Not on the evidence we’ve seen so far, it needs to move nearer its vision to fulfil that particular goal
DrNate86
The Wii had some good games, as I’m sure Kinect will. Ultimately they are both gimmicks though, and I highly doubt the Wii has provided anyone with millions of hours of entertainment, most people I know either never touch it or just play Wii Sports over and over. Kinect will succeed because it is something new that can be marketed just as the Wii was, even though that had very few good games on release.

All of my MS console friends have no interest in this

I don’t see what all the fuss is with this kinnect…..at the end of the day, its only an eyetoy in hi def with a few extra bits thrown in for good measure. You need buttons to play most games…i wouldn’t be surprised if microsoft bring out an extra bit of hardware thats simular to the wiimote or move otherwise the only games for kinnect will be of the keep fit type.
Juelz345
The same can be said for the Move in comparison to the Wiimote. It doesn’t stop the Move from being good. I think that same logic should be applied to Kinect. The UI stuff will be cool, and developers will find ways to incorporate Kinect into core games with out replacing the remote. Do I think that Kinect is worth $150? Not particularly, because of the lack of quality titles that will be available at launch. But the same can be said for Move, which i spent $200 on (two sets of controllers and the PS Eye). The only games that I feel are good with Move right now are Sports Champions and Heavy Rain.
So here’s to hoping that developers find interesting and enjoyable ways to implement both Kinect and Move. Other wise I’m out $350…:(

this tactic works. Kinect is the worst piece of kit i’ve ever seen and think it’s a joke…..but this news makes me want to buy it :-)
