You may remember TSA’s review of Limbo which we did during those crazy, hazy days of summer. Well Joystiq has been chatting to the game’s creators – Playdead – who have confirmed that a new IP is on the way, and that fans of Limbo will enjoy it. CEO Dino Patti had the following to say:
“I can’t tell much, but I can tell you that if you liked Limbo, it’ll definitely be for you. The gameplay style you’ll really like. You’ll feel it’s the same team who made it, but everything will be changed.”
He then went on to comment about platform exclusivity:
“It came out fine, because we got our money back, which was really cool. We are open for everything. To be honest, we want as many people to play our games as possible. If we end up going exclusive, we may do it for various reasons, but we just want as many people to play the game as possible.”
Oh, and just to confirm, Patti reiterated the fact that Limbo will be a Microsoft exclusive for life.

Well that’s a contradiction then isn’t it? We want as many people to play our games as possible, but we’re going to restrict it so that only people who have an xbox can play it. Madness!

and with the xbox pirates how will they make there money back

Piracy isn’t as big a deal on the 360 as you make it out to be, particularly with XBLA (as opposed to disk based retail games) games. As a matter of fact, that issue is more likely to be a bigger deal with PSN considering how many people “game share”, which is by definition, piracy. And you don’t really believe that games on LIVE don’t make $ do you. I’d be willing to bet that most multiplat down-loadable games sell better (hence, creating more profit) on LIVE. I don’t have any figures to back this and could certainly be wrong, tho.

In all fairness, they said they’d do exclusive for certain reasons and you’ll probably find that MS realise it’s a great title to say “we have Limbo and no one else does”. Generic FPS games don’t make great exclusives. Wonderful games like Flower, Limbo, etc, all make great exclusives as they are so very different to the usual shower of shite we’re all used to.
MS have obviously sweetened the deal but they’re saying there’s no genuine loyalty on titles unless a deal is struck. MS needs games like Limbo. However, I feel that Sony don’t need games like Limbo but want them if possible (the distinction being the important part).

Too bad. I’d really like to play Limbo on my ps3.
Let’s hope the next IP will be for ps3 aswell.

No Patti you can’t say that you everyone to enjoy your game only to restrict to one console.

I hope lbp2 will be able to make the limbo game quite near how is on xbox360.I no their is one on lbp but i think you can do even better on LBP2.

Really hope that they release some stuff on PSN, Limbo looked fantastic, it would be a shame if we never got to play their games.

Limbo was good, but way overrated imo. There simply wasn;t enough game there, and what game there was was far from perfect(Constant dying to work out how traps worked really got old fast).
I’d still check out anything these guys release in future, but it seems to me like burning their bridges on multiplatform is very shortsighted. Where’s the quote on how they reiterated this, eh? EH? Because they were always fairly vague on the subject previously as far as I saw, even in this same interview in fact.

I really enjoyed Limbo, even the trial an error aspect. I found that a lot of the solution were hidden in plain sight, and the rest were brilliant. Some will argue that $15 is too much for game that can beat in 4hrs, but i found those 4 hours to more entertaining that a lot of full retail games. Obviously this is just my opinion. But i really do hope that the next title is multiplat. 3rd party exclusives suck, but it does show the clear advantage of owning both consoles.

Try £/$40 for a game that can be completed in 4 hours.
