Five minutes worth of Dragon Age 2 ‘shaky-cam’ gameplay video has been taken during the Igromir Game Expo, which takes place in Moscow every year. Whilst it’s a seemingly innocent piece of footage, it has gotten quite a few Dragon Age fans riled up, which is mainly down to the implementation of the combat system. Having never played the original I’m in no place to comment, so can anyone help me out here? Why’s everyone so upset?

lots of cries of “urgh its a hack and slash game now”.
moshi
surely that not a bad thing

It’s a bloody RPG! You don’t constantly mash attack so it’s nothing like a hack and slash game. Stupid arse fans.
Watchful
Most of the complaints have come from the players of the PC version of DA:O. On that combat can be very different than it is on the consoles as you can zoom out to get an almost top-down view of the combat area and battles became much more tactical. You also have more custom slots for setting the combat behaviour of your companions. Combine that with about three times as many quick access slots for talents/spells/etc., and the increased speed with which commands can be issued with a mouse and keyboard and combat on the PC is very different. For all those reasons the difficulty levels on the PC are at least one step above those on the console versions.
PC players are upset at the changes to the combat system because BioWare are making the combat on the three versions much more similar which inevitably means some dumbing-down of the PC version.
Us “stupid arse fans” of the much more tactical combat on the PC version are rightly concerned at the changes to a beloved game that may radically change how it must be played.

I played it through on the PC and realised (before purchasing) that it was the smarter choice of platform for me. Dumbing it down will probably save on development time but alienate the PC community/fan-base. Bugger.
Assuming they haven’t spazzed it down to levels where it feels like we’re playing a graphically updated version of Golden Axe, they’ll still get my money.
Then again, Golden Axe would be cool too, but I digress. :-)
Watchful
I enjoyed replaying Golden Axe as part of the MegaDrive Ultimate Collection a couple of years back. If there’s another it’d better be nothing like the horrid Golden Axe: Beast Rider!

I like how they have streamlined this so it plays more like Mass Effect 2, the original DAO was awesome but 2 looks much better IMO

Hmmm i dont see whats wrong, as said above, its more fluid that i like and no button bashing still, so i dont see why people are saying its different?
