PSN Downtime Tomorrow Night

Sony have updated the PlayStation Blog with a notice of some upcoming PlayStation Network maintainance, starting tomorrow afternoon and continuing into the early hours of Friday morning.

Here’s the details:

PlayStation Network is offline for scheduled maintenance from 16:05 on Thursday 18 November 2010 until 01:00 on Friday 19 November 2010, GMT.

During the maintenance, you will be unable to access the following services:

  • PlayStation Store on PS3 and PSP.
  • PlayStation Network Account Management.
  • PlayStation Network Account Registration.

In addition, you will not be able to sign in to PlayStation Network from eu.playstation.com. If you wish to play online during the maintenance, please ensure you sign in to PSN before 16:05 on Thursday 18 November 2010.

It appears that only the Store and Account sections of the network are going down for modification, but that’s a massive chunk of peak game time that those services will be inaccessible for. There’s no similar notice on the US Blog, so assuming this is EU specific maintainance, you have to wonder why Sony would pick what must be a pretty busy time on the PSN to take it down.

  1. Did this before and then changed there mind must be for some good reason for that long

  2. waiting for the ranters…..

  3. Sony have been doing long maintainance a lot recently. I’ve heard they are planning something HUGE! Anyone care to rumour-kill?

    • Maybe HOME is coming out! ?:O :O :O

      • Comes out of “Beta” in December. Unless they shunt it again. ;)

    • It could just be that they have to do a lot of work to combat the PS jailbreak hacks. There’s been a number of concerns of what hacked consoles can do if they would actually be allowed online to the PSN, and that seems to be getting more realistic every day :\.

    • i had to agree to a new EULA the last time i logged into PSN and it mentioned Qriocity

      • Same here – thought that was weird…

  4. Bit annoying, but I’ll just play the AC:B single player… :D

    • don’t gloat now, oh yeah I have it to mwah ha ha

    • Technically the game doesn’t come out until Friday. It makes sense to do it on Thursday.

  5. Not too bad, basically just Thurs night of no online gaming if you don’t manage to get on before 4pm. Will give me a chance to finish off the Black Ops campaign!

  6. Very odd (bad) timing if this is EU only

  7. Oh, good… the very night I get to use PSN for the first time since last month :(

    • I’m pretty sure they timed it especially to annoy you ;)

      • bad times, they read your blog blair

      • Might sleep from 8pm-1am and then stay up all night playing Black Ops =D

  8. No biggie for me. I’m picking up Red Dead in the morning (yes, it’s been out for six months and I’m a little late to the party, ok? boo hiss boo hiss) so I can crack on with the singleplayer.

Am I the only one who has noticed that the 8-person party chat that has been implemented in Home could be the scaffold for Game Party and Cross Game Chat functionalities for regular PSN?

    • nope, I wonder if it will be released as part of a super-duper FW 4.0 or if it will be a PS+ benefit sometime next year to encourage re-subscribers

      • I have been on the fence about getting PS+ since it came out. If they did make GP and XCG functions available to PS+ members I would instantly sign up for 12 months.

  9. New ToS today, long downtime tomorrow? Anything to do with the news that 3.50 is no longer safe from the hackers?

  10. OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!£&)£($&<&<~£87%)? "/&;£))-£-@;& BBQ ftwwtfroflmmfaoptimusprimeocopterontoast!!!
    Crozzz gayme chat!!!!!!!
