Sony Can Make Move Even More Accurate

Sony has been talking to Eurogamer about the PlayStation Move, and apparently it can improve the accuracy of the controller via firmware updates.  The big question is does it need improving?  Anton Mikhailov, SCEA software engineer, doesn’t think so:

“So far we haven’t had any real requests from studios to improve the accuracy.  There are a couple of issues here and there we can fix, but the majority the games are not even taxing it to its full accuracy.”

It seems that gamers’ ability to deal with 1:1 control is actually more of a limiting factor.  Realism is great, but not to the point where a game becomes just too difficult.

“At that point you’re thinking, well, how much more precise does it need to be? We need to decide. There’s room for some more precision. It’s going to be up to us.”

Speaking from a personal viewpoint I think Move’s current level of accuracy is fine, as games like Sports Champion has proven time and again.

  1. At least if they improve the accuracy it will be done by firmware updates, unlike the Wii controller where you had to buy a new one.

  2. I have no complaints so far for the Move. I’ve been enjoying Sports Champions with my little brother when I want to just relax and have fun. Calibration problems rarely affects gameplay imo. Should they make it more accurate? I don’t think so.

  3. Make the calibration “one-time-only” :D

    • Yes! At least for the pointer!

  4. i have found move a brilliant bit of kit, and the only problems i have encountered tend to relate the space limitations of my room.
its ok for sports champions, but i have the fight from lovefilm and i need for my sofa to be along couple of feet back.

I think its accurate enough for most games, but am most interested in KZ3 as being the acid test for me.
