Uncharted Movie: Wahlberg Not The Worst Bit

Films of video games don’t always work out for the best, but hopes were initially high for the film adaptation of Naughty Dog’s genre-leading adventure.  However, it appears that the upcoming Uncharted movie will have its own problems for some hardcore fans, away from the lead role.

You’ll remember that Mark Walhberg, believe it or not, is going to play Nathan Drake.  Gamers groaned at the time, many believing the likes of Nathan Fillion would be much better suited, but wait until you hear what David O. Russell has planned: the film is going to feature a hefty dose of family values.

“This idea really turns me on that there’s a family that’s a force to be reckoned with in the world of international art and antiquities… [a family] that deals with heads of state and heads of museums and meets out justice,” said Russell, speaking to Latino Review, and presumably referring to the bizarre castings of Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci as Drake’s dad and uncle.

“We’ll have the family dynamic, which we’ve done in a couple of movies now,” he said. “And then you take that and put it on the bigger, more muscular stage of an international action picture, but also put all the character stuff in it. That’s a really cool idea to me.”

Well, you know, it’s not to some of us.  We just want Drake running about.

  1. If they do it tongue in cheek like Indiana Jones’ Dad, it might work but I somehow doubt they will pull that off.

  2. I dont get it. What’s the point of licensing a proerpty and then throwing absoloutely everything out apart from the name.

This move will A) Suck donkey balls and B) Bomb very badly.

    • Guess they hope the name and licence alone will seperate enough curious suckers from their cash to make it financially worthwhile.

  3. Oh god this is terrible. Why oh why does Naughty Dog allow this??

Didnt mind too much about Whalberg (although THIS guy IS Nathan Drake

but this family stuff is hideous!

  4. What a shame. Of all the games which could have been great films, this was the top of the list. It is now not.

  5. This is not an Uncharted-movie…

    Amen

  6. So….It’s National Treasure then? Just sign up Nic Cage and be done with it

  7. Awful. Just awful.
Well done for taking a well liked & respected series & wiping your bottom with it.
I could of course be wrong & it could turn out ok, but with information filtering out at the moment, I predict that it will be terrible. Shame.

  8. Are they TRYING to make it suck?

  9. Even if they manage to pull off a fantastic script and make it the best story ever, it will still fail as it is not in the spirit of Unchartedness!

  10. Didn’t Mark Wahlberg starred as Max Payne the movie. I heard that movie bombed. I love Max Payne games on PS2 just the 1st one of course, but never seen the movie itself. Is it really that BAD! Is Hitman even better than Max Payne (I’ve seen Hitman didn’t enjoy it)

    • Wahlberg didn’t ruin May Payne. The script was broing. Balme the writers.

    • yeah the script and story line were really really dull. it had one or two great moments but apart from that it just dragged on and on

      • Thanks guys I might wait for it to appear on the telly then.
