Films of video games don’t always work out for the best, but hopes were initially high for the film adaptation of Naughty Dog’s genre-leading adventure. However, it appears that the upcoming Uncharted movie will have its own problems for some hardcore fans, away from the lead role.
You’ll remember that Mark Walhberg, believe it or not, is going to play Nathan Drake. Gamers groaned at the time, many believing the likes of Nathan Fillion would be much better suited, but wait until you hear what David O. Russell has planned: the film is going to feature a hefty dose of family values.
“This idea really turns me on that there’s a family that’s a force to be reckoned with in the world of international art and antiquities… [a family] that deals with heads of state and heads of museums and meets out justice,” said Russell, speaking to Latino Review, and presumably referring to the bizarre castings of Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci as Drake’s dad and uncle.
“We’ll have the family dynamic, which we’ve done in a couple of movies now,” he said. “And then you take that and put it on the bigger, more muscular stage of an international action picture, but also put all the character stuff in it. That’s a really cool idea to me.”
Well, you know, it’s not to some of us. We just want Drake running about.

As Nathan Drake would say: “Ah shit”.

stop calling it Uncharted then, ya dick. Give it an original name and stop tarnishing the brand. Uncharted hasn’t had a hint on family in it so bugger off and make your “not” Uncharted movie.

Hang on, Uncharted is rated 15/16, so they are going to strip out all of the good parts and replace it “family friendly stuff”. I swear if they replace the humour with crappy jokes and get rid of elena and chloe i will go apes****.
It better not turn out like the resident evil films where that had sod all to do with the games.

Someone should write to whoever has given this fool the money to make the film and say look its goin to be EPIC…..FAIL with this storyline and your film will not make any money from the people who have played the game. Why don’t they hire a writer from Naughty Dog? And they know what needs to be filled in and parts of the story they can include that relates to the games story etc, and that would be a good movie…. Petition anyone? Lol

The Other Guys was awesome!

My prediction: It will end up being a 12 film, with a moral of some sort and involving not much violence or puzzle solving. No Chloé, Sully or Elena. I think it might end up making an alright film, but not good for fans of the series. Then there will be 2 sets of fans. The movie fans and the hardcore game fans. Neither will like the opposing fans’ values and the world will end.
Maybe not the end bit :D

I dont feel the problem lies with the casting of Mark Wahlberg, he can actually act (although Max Payne was a terrible film) and he could very well get into the character of Nathan Drake and surpise eveyone. Who thought the announcement of Heath Ledger as The Joker was going to be genius???
The problem with David O. Russells family values storyline is…it’s just not Uncharted! People who don’t play video games won’t want to spend their hard earned cash goingto see a film based on one, especially after the travesties that came before it like Streetfighter, Super Mario Bros, Tekken, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, the aforementioned Max Payne and every Uwe Boll film. And the video game fans wont want to go and see it if the storyline has nothing to do with the game series they love. Its hard to please everybody when it comes to making a movie from a game and also add a sense of realisim that can be abandoned when making a game. For example streetfighter you can play as one of its absurd characters and throw fireballs but put that in a movie and it just looks plain silly. Leave out the fireballs though and it just wont be Streetfighter. To end this rant lol, majority of games shouldn’t be turned into films and visa versa!
