Black Ops Patch Adds New Features

Yesterday, Treyarch launched patches for Call Of Duty: Black Ops on the PS3 and Xbox 360, which addressed a whole host of issues reported by the community. In addition to addressing the issues there was plenty of gameplay tuning which should go a long way to ensuring the masses are happy.

Including:

  • Over 400 brand new Contracts
  • Practice Dummies (aka, AI bots) in offline Local Split Screen
  • A new camera editing mode in Theater called “Dolly Cam
  • “Load Multiplayer by Default” option for the PS3

Talking about the addition of the AI bots to local split screen, Treyarch had this to say

One of the most popular features new to Black Ops is Combat Training, where players test their skills against A.I. that we call Practice Dummies. This mode is great for players who want to improve their MP skills in a way that does not impact their rank progression or stats in their public profile. It’s also a fun way to play MP cooperatively with your friends to see how you stack up against the game’s A.I.

Since launch, there have been countless requests to have the same option to fight against Practice Dummies in offline play, and we’re delivering on those requests. Whether you’re playing solo or split screen with friends, you can now fill the match with A.I. enemies for a deeper offline MP experience.

Navigate to Multiplayer > Local > Split Screen and choose either Team Deathmatch or Free-For-All as your game mode. Select Edit Game Options and you’ll see the ability to add Practice Dummies to your match. Adjust their Difficulty from Recruit up to Veteran and start the match.”

It’s not all great news for Black Ops owners though, particularly on the PS3 as there are reports surfacing in the official forums that some of freezing and dropping connection issues are still occurring, even after the patch. Treyarch have responded by stating that they are constantly addressing issues through their ‘live fixes’ mechanism along with gathering feedback for future patches.

  1. A dolly cam, isn’t that just the first person view?

  2. Okay…so now after PS3 getting this patch, Black Ops is almost at par with the 360 version, which Treyarch slopped together under biased conditions.

This being noticed, Treyarch’s comment on bluray being the problem for this dilemma is obviously a lie now.

I wish they would get their sh!t straight.

  3. Haha just last night I was complaining to my friend how stupid it was that there is no offline bot play, I should have waited it seems!

  4. Still havent bought BlOps and dont intend to until the chaos is sorted. Shouldnt rush things out if they are that broken.

    • To be fair, the complaints are vastly exaggerated (as all internet complaining is), I very rarely have times when I can’t join a game, and other than that the rest works perfectly. I wouldn’t worry too much about it!

      • Ahhh – I see. Cheers for the heads up on this one Doc, will get this when I visit the Trafford Centre, along with Medal of Honor….

  5. was looking forward to the patch and having proper matches, but its still bollocks, first game didnt even get past the starting countdown, and why is it that the game cuts out, just as im filling some guy’s face with lead! piss poor treyarch, (not wanting to sound like a fanboy) but infinity ward never had this problem! (in my experience).
Anyway, its really put me off the game, I was going to prestige, but now im going to stop at lvl 50 (as ive done for the last 2 cods). Im not enjoying it as much as previous iterations and ive got a massive backlog of games so after level 50, I probably wont touch it until some dlc appears (and even then Im not sure wether or not ill buy it, didnt bother with w@w’s dlc)
Sorry for the length of this comment. ;)

  6. If you play the multiplayer on your own then you probably don’t know what all the fuss is about, but i play COD with an experienced clan and its actually impossible to play BLOPS with all the issues! we all know exactly what we are doing we have open NAT types and have v good internet so the excuse of other people don’t wash. When you take the same 6 players into MW2 with little if no issues then there is no argument.. For me the 2 most important aspects of an online mulitplayer is to have fun with your mates and have a fairly level playing field in game play… Major Fail.
