Karl Stewart, Global Brand Director for Crystal Dynamics, has recently confirmed that Tomb Raider will be the next franchise to undergo the PlayStation 3’s “HD Classics” treatment. His tweet read:
Yes, it’s official. #TombRaider PS3 ‘Trilogy’ pack coming in the new year. Full details next week. Watch this space.
According to a German Amazon listing for the title, it will launch on March 22nd 2011, and will include Tomb Raider: Legend, Tomb Raider: Anniversary, and Tomb Raider Underworld. The PlayStation 3 version of Tomb Raider: Underworld debuted only a couple of years ago, and received a trophy patch in 2009. Though a solid game, it was knocked for its uninspiring visuals, something which may be rectified when it re-releases next year. There is also the hovering question as to whether the Trilogy will also include the controversial Underworld DLC, which is currently exclusive to the Xbox 360.
All three games will include trophy support, with the collector’s edition also bagging fans some exclusive PlayStation Home goodies. Amazon has listed the game at thrity Euros.

The last tomb raider i played was on a mac about 10 years ago and then the ps1, i lost intrest with the games on ps2 due to pop and the ps3 due to uncharted. Dont see the point of releasing these three as underworld is already on ps3 :/
10 years is a lot without no tomb raider, shame its gone from my mac but i still have the ps1 game so i mite give it a go this weekend :p

Legend and Anniversary weren’t in HD on Sony’s PS3, that’s why it’s gonna be released for the PS3. BTW, the X360 version of Legend looked way better than the PS2 oneon of Legend looked way better than the PS2 one, I hope they use the 360’s graphics on this port.

I would imagine they picked the last 3 games because they have already given them an HD make over on the 360 so it should be a case of just porting them over to a Blu-ray and making some adjustments. Whilst I would much prefer to play the first 3 in HD form, it would mean the team would have to start from scratch, which I cannot see them doing somehow. Day 1 purchase for me either way though as I enjoyed all 3 (especially Anniversery) and haven’t got any of them in my collection

Would have preferred the first 3, but I really loved Tomb Raider Anniversary, so looking forward to that.

Legend was my first TR game and I enjoyed Anniversary, so may well pick this up. Will have to sell my copy of Underworld. Thought it was pretty good and the graphics were pretty good. But I agree it shoudl have been better.

What a pointless release, just to echo everyone else’s thoughts, these are already HD releases, they are still fairly new, they weren’t particularly well received the first time and with the current reimagining on the way, is it really a good idea to parade the weaker titles in front of everyone again?
DRCD1
If I recall, all of these have a score around 80, while Chronicles and AOD scored around the 60%. While score isn’t everything, there’s already a TR123 trilogy, so if there was another trilogy, I belive it would be for 4, 5, AoD, because these share a story arc. And PS1 games don’t look good in HD.

I wonder how the first 3 would play now we’ve been blessed with uncharted. when I played underworld I couldn’t help thinking if i’d never played uncharted I might be able to forgive its short comings and find it less unbearable

i was also thinking that it was the 1 2 and 3, wich i would absolutely love. don’t get the point of putting the Underworld in the “package”. Getting this for my mom, she loves TR… :)

That title is a bit misleading. I thought it would have been the orginal ones that would have gotten the HD treatment. Maybe we will get TR 2 and 3 on the store soon?

Doh! I thought they meant the first Trilogy :-(
