Full Spectrum Punch Control Detailed For Fight Night Champion

As we’ve noted previously, the fighting system is getting a minor overhaul in EA’s flagship boxer, Fight Night Champion. Today, we’ve got a short video that gives you the specifics on how it will work.

I actually enjoyed the fighting mechanics from the last Fight Night game, but after looking at how it compares to the new method in Champions, it’s easy to see that the new direction they’re taking should make for faster and more precise punches.  For those of you that still prefer the simple button commands, those will remain untouched.

They’ve yet to show which direction you’ll have to manoeuvre the analogue stick to give the ‘bite his ear’ command, so I’m assuming that’s coming in their next video.

  1. Looks good, hope its not as buggy as last game

  2. Those controls look a little tricky to me especially if your controller isn’t 100% accurate, they look very similar to one another. It might just be me, I don’t know. I think I’ll wait for the full TSA review on this one.

  3. I preferred the controls in Round 3, I thought 4 was too scrappy and involved too much button mashing. I’m not sure simplifying things will help this.

  4. I just hope there will be an option to match up with stick players only.

Too many fights on FNR4 and EA MMA you start at an immediate disadvantage due to the handspeed advantage button controls give a player.

If it ends up getting Move support, that’ll see you chewing the rubber tip of the controller. The phallic implications of Move just continue to er, flow.

  6. Does anyone know if Move support has been confirmed for this game or not? I know it’s knackering after a while but I still would like the option of playing a few rounds with motion control.

Although presumably they wouldn’t do true 1-to-1 tracking as they have pre-canned animation for their fighters…
