Retailer Set 3DS Prices Roll In

Nintendo didn’t set a price for the 3DS, bizarrely, instead suggesting that it’s up to the retailers. That’s perhaps not entirely true, the retailers have to buy them in at a given price and they’re unlikely to drop below that, but it’s fair to say that already there’s a bit of a difference in who’s offering up which price.

Here’s a few:

ShopTo are saying £219.99.

It’s probably actually a canny move on Nintendo’s behalf, creating instant competition and hopefully some proper price wars as the customers eventually win out. We’ll see how it pans out.

  1. I don’t think I can afford it. I’ll wait until my brother’s birthday ’cause he’ll probably get one then. Then I can just “borrow” it while we head off to boarding school, since his bans them.

  2. Well I’ll be purchasing one, already pre-ordered one from amazon (US, not UK).

Considering the strong launch line up and 3d capabilities, I’m OK with US$250.00.

My only concern is the PSP2 and not knowing a release date for it. If it has trophy support, then I’d probably prefer that over the 3DS. Either way I’m sure I’ll end up purchasing both the kids will end up using them more than i do (as was the case with the DS and PSP Go).

  3. Well Game may be the most expensive (hands up who’s surprised) but since they offered the pre-order first they have my business. Reasonable in my eyes all things considered, or at least worth it for 3D Zelda.

  4. Interesting.

Not gonna get one myself but if they could hit under the £200 mark by Christmas then its definately a good price point for a new console with some new impressive features.

Of course its all going to be irrelevant if the PSP2 comes along at a higher price. Between the abundant advertising the 3DS and a potential cheaper price, Sony will have to price it well.

  5. The fact they’re playing retailers against each other makes me wonder; how much does it actually cost Ninty to make a 3DS? There’s got to be a comfortable profit margin on it to pull of that tactic.

  6. Im getting one.

  7. didnt expect to be so much more expensive then the Wii….

  8. Ouch! Want one but not that much! Think I’ll keep an eye on the price and maybe pick one up later in the year…
