Hackers Attack Another Game, “Modern Combat” Hacked

Modern Combat: Domination, the quick fire first person shooter from Gameloft that launched last week, has already been hacked  on PS3 – even before we’ve managed to get our review out – just like earlier versions of the Call of Duty franchise.

The hack, which takes cruel advantage of the PS3’s recent security breakdown, takes out smoke grenades, adds bullet tracing, ESP and, ultimately, promises ‘god mode’ and ‘wallhacks’.  The poster of the video says that he “doesn’t think a tutorial should be posted” and hopes that the developers see this so they “know to patch this ASAP.”

“Please fix this because this game is going to get f*cked hard,” he says.  Probably a little bit late for that.

  1. Something needs to be done about these hacks and FW hacks fast.

    • agreed

      • i’m with talkative hannes! grief reports on games would be good, ban the player if there another complaints

      • enough*

    • I think Sony’s complete silence on firmware updates is probably telling. If this thing is fixable, you’d have thought they would have released an update by now. Unless they’re waiting for a new big feature to pair the fix with (so people are more inclined to update), that’s probably wishful thinking though.

  2. Mark my words; these hacks could have the potential to cause a game to flop on sales, just because one idiot thinks its funny to play a game with godmode on .

    • If the next CoD gets hacked, I’ll certainly not be getting it. It’s not worth it just for the SP.

      • Agreed.

      • I’m so pleased everyone is agreeing with me today :P

      • I probably won’t buy the next CoD anyways, after Black Ops.

    • Your spot on, BIGAL-1992,
I’ve been considering buying it but for some reason I haven’t commited to it yet. I most definitewly won’t be buying until at least after a patch is released, but by the time that happens I might have moved on to something else.
Surely I can’t be the only one in that situation

      • Nope I’m the same. Was really contemplating getting it, thought it looked a bit like COD of old (you know, when it was fun.) but this has made my decision for me.

      • If it’s anything like MW1 & MW2 its unpatchable

Developers need to include server side updates like BlOps (and others).

This is a major, major problem for Sony that I can only see being sorted by some draconian DRM measures, which could hurt sales and future PlayStation growth more than piracy

      • You not alone buddy. I was going to get this to play through a bit before Dead Space 2 but not anymore. Sony need to sort this out ASAP!!

    • It’s terrible for all involved. A development house can go bankrupt because a game doesn’t sell through enough copies. Other developers simply cancel (or never start) development on their games.
They’re hurt. Gamers are hurt. Everybody is hurt.
Seriously, being able to pirate the game would be less harmful to the industry than ruining online for everyone who buys a game.

  3. Fxxxxing HACKERS.what a waste of space these nerds are.they need to get a gf or a bf the lill dooshes

    • The problem is they all have small cocks which is why they have to this…

      • sorry missed the ‘do’ out of ‘do this’ ;)

    • Ironic really… These ‘nerds’ will most likely have a better job than you, especially with that attitude of yours. Do yourself a favor and grow up! Insults like that are just plain stupid – makes you sound no older than 14.

      Written on my iPhone.

      • They’re wrecking the fun that alot of people paid alot of money to play. Do hackers deserve better than to be called nerdy deuches? I don’t think so.

      • and I wouldn’t call going down to car-boot sales and selling pirate DVDs and games a ‘good job’.

      • I have a good job thank you, I just hate knobheads like this and like to express my anger like a 14 year old…because I can in an open forum

      • So you trying to condone what these hackers do as they might have good jobs? Don’t even no where to start with that comment!

      • hahah.. Glad to see this comment has riled you folks of the forum right up! Just a reminder – Don’t feed the trolls.

Anyway, don’t get me wrong – I hate piracy and online hacks as much as the next guy, but I am all for hacking. Not the ‘backup managers’ or ‘trophy unlocking’ side of things, but the hacks which allow you to play Homebrew.. and eventually – Plugins.

yes yes, you can throw all the god damn insults you want, but without these ‘hacks’, there would never be any real advancement in security or any major intensive to add features.

Wait until the Custom Firmware teams or independent hackers/homebrew devs start creating various additions to the system. If the idea is sound, then they will follow suit.

You never know – They might just beat Sony to the punch and create some form of third party ‘Cross Game Chat’ plugin.

(P.S: These ‘hackers’ are essentially programmers – they could snap up some fairly well paid jobs pretty quick. Especially if it involved ‘Ethical Hacking’.)

  4. Its okay its a Gameloft game…. but if it was orignal I would care

  5. I hate the way these guys come on and say yea we managed to hack the game but we are really doing you all a favour and just wanted to warn you how easy it is to crack.
They are nothing but attention seekers , and then we get the little fans who admire these people giving it all the “its for homebrew” and “Linux this” & “Linux that” sticking up for these prats . Those sort of comments are what these hackers crave , giving them some sort of self importance in their otherwise miserable nocturnal pot noodle lives.

    • hahaha so true!

Crappy bleedin’ ‘hOmEbRuW!1!11!!’ So what!, a handful of other dorks get to make a few tetris rip-offs. Whooptie fuckin’ doo-dah!

      • You obviously can not see the bigger picture, can you BG…
Edit: a frank exchange of views is good, name calling loses you the argument. Keep it civil or lose commenting rights. – cb

Alright – Message received (sorry ’bout that). Tis just that the whole subject sends me on a fury, due to the fact that people think the Homebrew/hacking scene is essentially; crap.
People need to open their eyes and see what the community can do when given the right tools, and that it’s not ALL online game hacks and piracy.

  6. Well it’s put me off getting it, so mission accomplished dicks.

  7. Just hope KZ3 doesnt get this treatment, soon you wont be able to play on psn at all

    • I would have thought that, like BlOps, it will include some server-side update procedure meaning this sort of hacking isn’t possible

  8. Call me stupid, but isn’t using these sorts of hacks just the same as using a cheat disk in the previous generation of consoles. People only seem pissed about it this gen because of the increase in online play. They’re only cheating themselves. At least this hack is being used for a seemingly responsible purpose!

    • The problem is that if this guy was able to hack it, so can anyone else.

      • you have a very, very optimistic view of ‘everyone else’. most people can’t hack their way out of a shoe box. i am not defending this guy’s behavior, but this does require actual skill/knowledge.

    • That made GTA good… shame thiers not much this gen

  9. Well when I tried to play the Trial of the game, I couldn’t even get into a lobby. It would either put me in a lobby on my own, or would try to put me into one that was already full.
I hope a FW Update is released soon, with all these great games coming out I don’t want to see all of them being ruined.

    • Same for me Gazza , at first i thought i was playing with fellow humans then after a while i cottoned on that it was a bit strange that everyone’s name was Capt. Lt. Gen. etc !!
To be fair i quite enjoyed the short time i had , its no BFBC or CoD but for £6 its a real bargain . It has more similarities to Counter Strike Source than those 2 games . I haven’t bought it yet but i intend to soon.

      • graphically it reminds me of black hawk down, on ps2
bhd had better gameplay, well it was a full price game

  10. The hacking of the PS3’s “heart” or the codes to add a signature to unsigned code could very well do terminal damage to the PS3. If this is, as reported, unfixable then the only option Sony have is to rush another console to market.
Its one thing to run pirate games but when it makes online gaming almost impossible for those without the hack its another matter entirely.
