PS3 Updated To Firmware 3.56

If you’ve logged in to the PlayStation Network in the past couple of hours, you may have noticed that a new firmware update has went live.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it adds anything nifty as the PlayStation Blog is just calling it “a minor update that adds a security patch.”  It’ll be interesting to see if this plugs any holes that hackers have created in the PS3’s armor.

Update: Word is reaching us that the encryption key for the new firmware is already out there and available to wily pirates. Back to the drawing board it seems.

  1. It might aswell be called ‘Geohot 3.56’

  2. Cool, hammer those pirates Sony!!

  3. The Sony-pirate war begun that day. Sony were large but the hackers were innumerable. So Sony sent 300 people with banhammers to hunt and destroy them. The first few battles were gory, but with every battle Sony won the hackers found another way to hack into the PS3.

All sony can do now is keep updating the firmware and banning the hackers. They have a massive battle ahead.

  4. I wanna download it via http, why is the Sony website always behind ? It’s still listing 3.55 @ 11:05am

  5. Hacked already. Purrrlease, will we be getting 2 FW updates a day?

    • I wonder if there is a way to set mandatory automatic download and install of updates that means Sony can send out small updates daily that will install overnight and disable any hacked PS3s. If they could keep some sort of background updating going, the fact that the PS3 would need to be rehacked every day would put off most hackers I would imagine.

      • Yup. Determined hackers wouldn’t care as they’re surely only experimenting on offline PS3’s (although I have read there is a DNS workaround to connect them) But the hassle is what will put off people who are maybe tempted to experiment.

  6. I’m going to say it again.
    I hate hackers.
Also, they really need to try to encrypt these “keys” more than they already are or a different but more secure way, if possible.

  7. I HATE HACKERS!

  8. already hacked? jeeze!

  9. Hacked within 24hrs, those guys are dedicated to say the least. :(

  10. I had my first experience with a hacker on AC Brotherhood earlier this week (well I’m assuming it’s a hacker and not just a glitch). The guy (riccouk) was invisible and for some reason the compass always stayed on ‘he’s right here, but not in your line of sight’ mode. It was infuriating, and when I called him out on it post-match all I got was a generic “thank u”
