Kinect Integration For Fight Night?

EA are looking into ways of best utilizing Kinect for a Fight Night game, if an article by Eurogamer is to be believed. As we have previously reported, the upcoming game ‘Fight Night Champion’ will not have Kinect control, but that could change in the future. Fight Night Champion producer, Mike Mahar, had the following to say:

“It’s definitely something we’re looking at. We’ve done some pretty cool prototyping. It could perhaps be a mini-game embedded in. Then again with how precise and how robust the movement and motion controls are now, I think we’d be doing them a disservice if we simply said that our version of a motion control game is a mini-game within Fight Night.

I think we’d best serve the community, if we’re going to do anything ever, with a totally different game. That’s the speculation on my part.”

The question of gamer fitness was once again raised, with Mahar claiming that most simply wouldn’t be able to stand up and punch for ten rounds. Whilst this may be true, I’m sure a staggered system could be put in place which gradually builds you up to a full bout.

So, Kinect boxing – yay or nay?

  1. why would they use kinect just for a minigame?
surely kinect would be perfect for a boxing game, it’s not like you need to read the player’s fingers. :)

you could perfectly recreate the experience of boxing with kinect, apart from the getting hit about the face and body bit of course, but i’ve always assumed that was the least fun part of boxing anyway.

    • Because they (correctly) think their target audience isn’t fit enough for 3min rounds.

I think they should provide it as an option and allow people to choose between motion & pad.
