‘Project Dark’ Officially Named

Japanese gaming magazine ‘Famitsu’ has revealed that From Software’s Project Dark has now been officially named as ‘Dark Soul’ – Can you sense the running theme here? Those hoping for a link with PS3 exclusive, Demon’s Souls, will be disappointed because there is none; however the ass-kicking trial and error gameplay mechanic will remain intact.

    • Think demon’s souls, but multiplatform.

  2. i don’t really understand how they’re able to release this given the Demon’s Souls is an exclusive due to legal issues. I’m not saying it should or shouldn’t be exclusive — but how in the world does changing the name from ‘Demon’s Souls’ to ‘Dark Soul’ change the fact that’s it, at least based on footage, is clearly a successor to Demon’s Souls?

    Put it this way — if you legally owned the rights to Super Mario Brothers, and your development team produced a game with nearly identical gameplay and released it as Super Vario Sisters… I think it’s be clear what was going on.

    Demon’s Souls was the best game in the past decade, so I’m glad we’re getting more… and I’m glad more people will be exposed to it… but I seriously don’t understand why Sony isn’t confronting them about this, assuming they do have the rights to the Demon’s Souls franchise.

    • From what I remember, Sony passed up the chance to publish Demon’s Souls and (I think) it was picked up by Atlus to publish in America, and Namco Bandai to publish in Europe. Namco Bandai seems to be publishing this one as well.

    …but that doesn’t matter, Dark Soul should be much stronger than its spiritual precdessor so begins a long wait…..
