Today, Gamesindustry.biz posted a chart which ranks gaming websites based on their unique visits and their total pageviews (from UK traffic). As usual, TheSixthAxis was overlooked and not included in the charts (subscription required to view that link). We’re not sure why we’re overlooked in these things but we’d like to be seen a little more so we’re going to talk a bit about it here.
Usually, we wouldn’t discuss our traffic figures so openly. We think that sort of information is best kept between advertisers and PR people while we concentrate on bringing you the best news coverage and opinion that we possibly can. Every now and then, though, it’s nice to show why we’re so proud of what we’ve built and why we’d like it if more people took a bit of notice.
So, We’ve worked out our own stats and added ourselves to the list. Keep in mind that these are based on UK traffic only (ours is less than 50% of our total now). Also keep in mind that any figures taken from an analytic service will obviously have a margin of error. Ours are probably not quite as accurate as the ComScore methods used by GI.biz for other sites but it gives us all an idea of where we sit.
I think it’s interesting to note that (I think) we would be the third largest UK-based site (GameSpot is the UK-branded pages of a US site) on the list, after Eurogamer and CVG. If that is accurate, it’s impressive given the gulf in financial and industry support between them and us.
As with any of these commissioned charts, I’d advise you take them with a pinch of salt. We would imagine that, although every effort will be made to ensure precision, there is a little vagary involved with returned results. We’d be surprised, for example, if VG247 weren’t counted so their absence from the chart is a little peculiar.
The list is in the format “SITENAME – Unique Visits; Total Visits” and is based solely on UK data.

Only visit TSA, excellent site with dedicated staff. Well done.

I could bet I’m half of those visits, I visit TSA every 10 minutes from 7 AM till 11 PM! ( seriously, I do :P)

OK heres my thoughs on some of the sites mentioned-
IGN: too many adverts, biased reviews
CVG: too much old/out of date content, far too many fanboy comments in the forum/comment (which is due to CVG flame baiting)
Joystiq: not bad but not enough content.
VG247: decent site, second to TSA for me, BUT the community is far better and more mature at TSA.
TSA: Freakin awesome, great articles, regularly updated, fun and a top community.
Gamesradar, 1up and Eurogamer just don’t have that something that makes me come back regularly, not sure exactly what that is.

TSA is the only site I use daily.

Yep, this’s the only site I check hourly for gaming related jiggery-pokery, and it deserves to be noticed!
Bit sad Gamershell are so low too, I use them for all patch downloads etc.

I now live is Australia, but TSA is where I come for my daily news fix. I’m part of the AUF clan which has some cool forums over at http://www.ausforces.com
Symposium Cacophony
I only go on three of the above which includes TSA which is my main site everyday although I just go on eurogamer when there’s nothing to do… GT is ok but.. I don’t know the forums can be a bit hilarious sometimes but can get boring.
Gamershell is a good site, I’ve visited the site a few times to download demos and free games for the pc.

I only go to IGN for some trailers. And even then it’s their YouTube account, not the website.

I used to visit QJ hell of a lot and they were ok with fairly fast update of news. Recently ditched them though. Their news now comes in at a really slow or delayed rate and the people-high-up seem to only care about generating views to line their damn pockets.
Glad to see TSA above them :)

Speaking as a more mature gamer (I reach ‘half-a-hundred’, as my wife so kindly describes it, in April) I find that TSA has by a long way the most balanced news and reviews, and the best forums too.
I have been treated with nothing but respect and fairness whenever I make glib comments – which can’t be said for the mass of other websites who seem to be areas put aside for teenagers who feel the anonimty of the web means they can cast aspersions about my parenthood.
Long live TSA!
