Florence + The Machine Join Bioware

I have a long standing theory that publishers hold their odd news back until Friday and this just confirms it. Florence + The Machine are to feature in the Dragon Age II soundtrack.

Electronic Arts have announced that a new version of the track ‘I’m Not Calling You A Liar’ has been ‘Dragon Age-d’. EA’s worldwide executive of music and marketing and co-producer of the track, Steve Schnur said:

With the band’s full blessings and enthusiasm, we isolated Florence’s original vocals from one of their most unique songs and completely ‘Dragon-Age d’ it.

What was originally a powerfully stark, acoustic-based song has been reborn with all-new instrumentation and full orchestration. The results are an epic anthem for the next stage of the Dragon Age legend.

In other words, they took the acapella of the track and remixed it. That sounds a bit dull though, ‘Dragon Age-ing’ an ‘isolated vocal’ sounds dead posh.

Part one of the Dragon Age II soundtrack wil be available online on March 8th and will cost £2.00.

  1. Thankyou, I’ve been searching for Friday confirmation all day (even though It’s now Sat) and this proves it. There isn’t enough utterly bizarre news on a Friday anymore. It’s the only way I know what time of week it is. :D

  2. Well, it’d be nice to hear how it sounds before I cast judgement…

  3. Hm missed a great opportunity…. like what Sacred 2 (RPG of 2009) did it was awesome.

    • Basicaly Dragonage would’ve been Blind Guardianed for the best

  4. I heard this song earlier… Wouldn’t really consider it a fit for Dragon Age. But signing a big-ish name to do the music won’t hurt the sales, that’s for sure.

  5. Bioware appear to have their finger on the pulse with the all so important, but often forgotten, realm of game soundtracks.
My experience of me2 was heightened by the blade runneresque soundtrack.
The analogue synths that made a brooding but gentle sound when you died, the background music when the mission you are on is starting to get intense, even when thane talks about various memories.

It may not be like dead space in terms of ambient sounds, but as far as actual soundtracks go, I was coloured impressed. Bravo.

  6. Pfft, Florence was SO last year.

  7. Meh don’t like Florence and their music. There’s barely any good artist these days.
    USA metal FTW.

  8. Thats good news for me! I like FATM!

  9. This is good, I quite like what i’ve heard of these guys. You can’t deny her voice, and I think it will sound good Dragon Age-d.

  10. This is a brilliant song, but this seems a bit of a strange choice to mesh with Dragon Age…
Still, just gives me an excuse to listen to Lungs again!
