Over on the EU PS Blog it has been announced that as of tomorrow PS Plus members will be getting a cloud based save service. After downloading firmware update 3.60 you will be able to have up to 1000 saves, or 150mb of data.
“To do so, simply highlight the game save you want to store in the [Saved Data Utility (PS3)], press the triangle button to bring up the options, select “copy” and then select “Online Storage” as the destination. In turn, you can access your Online Storage list via [Saved Data Utility (PS3)] when signed into PlayStation Network on a friend’s PS3 and download your stored game saves to carry on your game from where you left off.
If the developer has chosen to implement copy protection on their game saves, you can still copy those files to Online Storage but there will be a 24 hour period, after each save, before you can then download them on any PS3.
If your PlayStation Plus subscription expires then you will no longer be able to access Online Storage until you renew your subscription. However, any game saves stored will be kept for six months and you will be able to access them as before when you renew the subscription, as long as you do so within that six month period.”

Awesome :) That’s actually a lot more space per user than I expected! First thing I’ll do tomorrow is copying my Demon’s Souls and Dragon Age: Origins save files :)

Why can’t it be a normal feature for everyone to access…..
If they dare introduce cross-game chat only for PS+ I will be furious!!

I don’t understand how people can have views like this.
Why do some people just expect to get all these extra features for free? It costs Sony to provide these new features, at least this way you can choose it pay for the extra features or not. They could have gone down the Xbox Live route of charging for pretty much everything, but they went down this IMO better route.

I knew there had to be some catch! PSN+! I was gonna get it but i heard they stopped giving 15 months for price of 12. I’ll wait for Sony to start that again.

Not really sure if I support the “it should be for everyone” argument, though. This is actually an important service, and if they make it for everyone, they’ll lose many PS+ subscriptions. This might just be the thing that put people over on the PS+ side if they’ve been waiting for something to make them pay for it!

Up for work and downloading 3.60 right now. Patch notes say it will also let you set the amount of time before your controllers automatically turn off when left idle. We’ll see what hidden features there are – it’s been a while since we got any so hopefully there will be a few more.

I’m happy with it. I dont want the hassle I had when I changed to a Slim. My phatty was on its last legs so had to scrape enough money together at short notice, to purchase a slim, then do the data transfer, and then trade in the dying phatty. This would have made things a lot easier for me.
