Microsoft Releases Achievement Stats

At lot of things have changed in the world of games since what are now the current-gen consoles were released many moons ago, but it’s not just more pixels and particles being thrown around under the hood. Between online multiplayer and co-op, in-game voice chat, and social networking, gaming has become more about the community that ever before. Today, Microsoft have released figures for one of the more competitive aspects of this new gaming experience: achievements.

Since the Xbox 360’s release in late 2005, 6.3 billion achievements have been unlocked, say Microsoft. These achievements add up to a current incredible total of 176,802,201,383 Gamerscore points across all Xbox Live-connected users. The average Gamerscore is apparently 11,286, which makes my total of 240 really quite embarassing.

In addition, Microsoft have released some more general figures for Xbox Live, revealing that 20 million people sign in to the service every day, and more than four billion hours of online play have been logged since Live launched on the original Xbox in 2002.

  1. My GS is just under 60k and I haven’t played a 360 game for nigh on 2 years… How many people are in the same boat as me I wonder?

  2. Does this figure include all the hacked achievments? I teach at an FE college and the amount of students who exploit this is incredible!

  3. Those are some big ass stats!

I would really love to see the same thing released for the PS3’s Trophy system.

  4. Impressive stats there. I would love to see PS actually do something with Trophies. At the moment, they mean f**k all. I’d also like to see something like the Timer that they have on Steam that shows the hours per week you’ve played and hours per game.

  5. My mates gamerscore is around 40k as he rents alot of games.

  6. Achievement Unlocked. Avoid making an achievement pun. 1000 Gamer score.

That is impressive. I knew a lot of xbox players like to get achievements but i didn’t expect that many! I would like to see how many trophies were done. I think the reason why Achievements are so popular is because you can unlock stuff for your avatar. I could be wrong. I wish trophies would unlock stuff for our home avatars or apartments. Come on sony, turn the trophies into something rewarding instead of bragging rights. I wonder how many Achievements are unlock every day? Also well done MS for having impressive stats. Achievement unlock. Make a comment on TSA. 100 Gamer score.

  7. They are impressive stats. I would love to see some Sony ones.

  8. Xbox may have had a headstart, but Sony should release their stats! Nothing like a little bit of friendly competition, eh?
