PlayStation 3 Celebrates Its 4th Birthday

Today sees Sony celebrate the PlayStation 3’s fourth birthday in Europe. Our beloved black box has had somewhat of a difficult journey; plagued by a launch price beyond the reach of many; wounded by an uninspiring launch line-up, and battered by early ports that paled in comparison to their Xbox 360 counterparts.

How things have changed though, and we don’t think anyone can argue against the fact that this year is the year of the PS3. Only three months in and we’ve been given LittleBigPlanet 2, Killzone 3, and MotorStorm Apocalypse. Looking further down the line sees titles such as InFamous 2, Journey, and Uncharted 3.

Happy birthday PS3; here’s to another four years!

  1. 4 years already, feels like about half that! I’m happy with my ps3 for another 4 years easy.

  2. For me, MotorStorm and Resistance Fall of Man does not equate to a poor launch software line up. Both fantastic games and compared to today’s offerings, the 16 or so hours it took me to complete the single player campaign plus the fact that I still occasionally play Resistance 1 online means I’ve had my money’s worth many times over.

    • Yeah they were great, also oblivion and Motorstorm was a few months after I think June… can’t get any better than that really.

Oh and Sonic The Hedgehog was awesome……. (I know that its famous for being utter s**** but it had heart… Awesome boss battles, awesome music… er..erm what else?)

      • Oblivion came a little later, but Motorstorm was a launch title with Resistance and the both happened to be the two I got!

Resistance, Motorstorm, Warhawk and Oblivion. Ahhh, those were the days.

  3. I bought my PS3 in August of 2007 and only had Resistance FoM. Didn’t get another game until December I think. Can’t imagine what launch day people must have gone through.

  4. 4 years already? wow. Happy Birthday!

  5. Wow. Happy Birthday. Hope the next 4yrs is great.

  6. I was working in Currys launch day, think we sold maybe one. The price was terrible, but I made sure I set one up at the front of the store, shunting the xbox somewhere else.

  7. Gimme PS4 now :)

  8. Long live the queen!

  9. Huh? wasn’t 2008, 2009, 2010 known has the year of the PS3s?
