Dead Rising 2: Off The Record Announced

This is an odd announcement. Capcom is releasing a reinterpretation of the events portrayed in Dead Rising 2 with Frank West as the main character. One has to wonder why he wasn’t the leading role in the first place.

Off the Record is basically more Dead Rising 2 in every sense of the word. In addition to featuring a new storyline, there’s new weapons, environments, vehicles, and enemies. Unique to Frank West is the ability to take photos with his camera. The pictures you take will be graded against the following criteria – horror, drama, erotica, and brutality. Off the Record also improves the load times, online performance, and includes a “host of system upgrades to deliver a more satisfying Dead Rising experience.”

  1. Interesting. If they sell it budget priced like Super Street Fighter IV I might pick this up, since I already own DR2.

  2. Am i right in saying that this is a ‘full’ release rather than a DLC add on??

    • This is indeed a full release.

      • Ah thought so – Thanks for the confirmation Delriach.
Will probably finish up what i can on DR2 then so i can trade & then pick this up when released! :)

  3. Sweet! Simplesssss

  4. Looks like Frank’s been living the high life since the first Dead Rising. Far too many pies Frankie boy

    • Frank does like his pies. He was warned, but he wouldn’t listen.

  5. Hmm this seems a bit to easy for Capcom. If it’s full price, I’m waiting for this to hit the bargain bin.

    • I agree, I love Dead Rising but they do seem to be milking this a bit. Still I probably won’t be able to resist when it’s down to under £20!

  6. Cool,is is DLC or a new disc? Couldn’t tell from the article.

    • I updated the article to reflect that it’s a disc based game. Sorry for the confusion. :)

  7. Starting too lose more and more respect for Capcom….

    • Agreed, the last game they made that I actually liked was Resi 4. I really can’t see how any of the recent games they’ve made could have sold very well.

      • You guys are kidding right? Granted, they do seem to have produced a lot of PSN titles for this gen, but recent(ish) releases have been; Super Street Fighter IV, Dead Rising 2, Lost Planet 2, Marvel vs Capcom 3 which have all sold really well (well, maybe apart from Lost Planet) & are generally really liked.

Granted, they have released a couple of stinkers through 2009 & the beginning of 2010, but to me they seem to have upped their game & improved – Actually, stayed faithful to what they are good at is probably more accurate to be honest.

Also to note is that this isn’t technically speaking a rehash of the same game – It’s a reimagining of the story told from Frank’s perspective with different allies & enemies (& an improved/tweaked game engine by the sounds of it).

  8. assassins creed brotherhood pulled it off why can’t dead rising. Day 1 buyer! Be nice for a special edition to go with my zombrex and outbreak editions.

  9. hmm i wonder if there will be a DLC for this game. Imagine this! Case: Greene where you get to play as Chuck and Frank!

    • Apparently if you do co-op in this version, you will remain as Frank & your co-op partner will be chuck & vice versa if you join someone else’s game. Or something like that anyway.
