Xbox Live Gets “Service Alert” Warning

As Sony suffers their worst PR disaster for years (and us customers are left reeling with doubts over credit card and ID theft) it looks like Microsoft might be experiencing something too.

There’s a Service Alert for ‘matchmaking’ on the official site, that says users “may experience difficulties” regarding Modern Warfare 2.  Apparently there are “potential phishing attempts via title specific messaging” so be aware if you’re playing that game.

“We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve the issue,” say Microsoft. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience.”

Everything else on LIVE appears fine.

  1. Wouldn’t be surprising, considering their comments on Live being ‘robust’ in comparison to PSN at the weekend.(http://www.destructoid.com/microsoft-psn-outages-are-bad-but-xbox-live-is-okay–199469.phtml)

That’s the kind of arrogance that (may have) got Sony into trouble.

  2. my brother got phished by simply joining a hacked lobby… its so easy for them now.

  3. To follow up on Foxhound_Solid, at least the Wii doesn’t have the worst gaming network now

  7. its funny, it really is, xbox fanboi users all around the world have been laughing at the PSN situation all week, because i am primerily a playstation user my work mates have been taking digs all week just childish stuff like, you going online tonight and stuff. but when this news broke they are all defensive. OH at least its not the whole network they said.

HA it may not be the whole network but are you telling me that any media company with an online portal like PSN or LIVE isnt on full alert to make sure they aint next and someone has still got in. THEY will find a way and you know what i shouldnt say but i want LIVE down aswell just out of principle that it dosnt matter the service HACKERS can and will bring you to your knees

  8. i agree to dis-agree xbox got hit when it was just abox(yip cd in cd out, idont need cd anymore)hence the xbox fan.so there marketing genius goes lets call the next one the xbox 360,they should of called it a boomerang cause it did not make them millions like the first, but it did a 360 and cost them billons in lost revenue and kinetic thats cool, dinosaur in ps3 eye. hands free good with the little leages.i myself perfer some thing i can touch something i can control something to feel something with resistance
i do not like the feel the no the touch so i make a move
the choice is yours use the force socom

  9. i’ve been reading rumours that ms have unbanned a load of previously banned 360s over a threat to hack their network like the psn.

if the rumours are true it was either unban the consoles or they’de get hacked, and ms chose to cave.

probably not true, but who knows lately.

  10. hackers do need to get a real security job .
