Hackers Post 2,500 Users Details, Sony Removes Them

A report from Reuters yesterday claimed that hackers had posted the user details of some 2,500 Sony sweepstake contestants, but that the company had later got them removed.

The data wasn’t from the current PlayStation Network but was connected to the “continued attacks of Sony,” said a Sony spokesperson.  The user info, which didn’t include credit cards or passwords, was from an “out of date” website which was also compromised in the attacks.

Sony say they have removed the published information from the internet.

The PlayStation Network remains down, despite Sony claiming it would be up “within a week” back on the 30th of April – gamers, developers and publishers eagerly await the ability to play games (and, in the case of those currently unable to sell their games on the Store, make some money).

Sony may be offering a reward to anyone that can assist with finding the hackers.

  1. So the hackers aren’t attacking Sony now, this is an attack on us, the customers. You can’t blame Sony for dickheads posting what they nicked on the net

    • they may say its an attack on sony but you are right. posting anybodies details they may have is not attacking sony its a straight attack on us the customer. i really want to know what they hope to get out of this now.

  2. DUCK!if these hackers are trying to p*ss off everyone, then they have succeeded. They are now trolling.
I have a very bad feeling that Sony are going to be battling the hackers for months.:(

  3. Dammit, really, when will it stop. I am starting to get fairly frustrated now, amazing being relaxed since the day the PSN went down.

    • I’m like you, been real calm and collected, checked all I needed to and read up on all if this. Now I’m just getting fed up with it all. I genuinely hope they’re caught soon, they’re not just threatening Sony, they’re threatening every single person who’s details the may have. I’ve heard many people use many terms, and in many ways terrorists is a close one, purely cos of what they are doing. Sony and we can do so much to protect our own information, but with so many things Internet based now, there’ll always be people to spoil it.

      • Please don’t abuse the term terrorist! We get enough of that from mainstream media trying to push their “news” through sensationalism or politicians pushing their agendas through fear. No persons life is in danger because of this so its as far from terrorism as you can get. (Still criminal assholes though)

  4. I’m starting to get fed up about this now… Not buying an xbox though, I’m not that thick…

  5. SICK of hackers wish they would …. OF.

  6. Hackers chasing any attempt to stay relevant.

  7. I’m just waiting for PSN to be back online so that I can wipe my data and sell my PS3, lol.

  8. I would like to know why Sony are keeping these details on a website from a 2001 competition. 10 years!

The frequently mentioned ‘Sony’s inherited apathy to security’ is astonishing, hopefully it’s a wake-up call for other companies too.

Nothing adds up to the fact that Sony took protection of customer details seriously, even though they do now – funny what bad press & plummeting share price does to corporate attitudes.

    • Shut the fuck up. Sick of your ranting Sony hate.

      • What a complete over reaction and such an uncalled for reply. Comments like that are not welcome here and if you cant respect other peoples comments, then dont comment at all. Please check your PM’s.

      • Dear fanboy/idiot/anonymous internet moron,

        Go away

        Your sincerely,

        Everyone.

  9. Whoever posted that data is a f’ing a-hole but i think Sony need to hurry up with allowing customers access to PSN, if only to change passwords and gain some slight peace of mind.

  10. These hackers are nothing but cowards, still sickens me…
