Ubisoft Announce Ghost Recon Online

The Tom Clancy franchise is receiving yet another expansion, this time delving into the realm of free-to-play online shooters with Ghost Recon Online. Launching this Summer via closed beta the game will stand against EA’s already-popular entries to the sub-genre, Battlefield Play4Free and Battlefield Heroes. Sporting an intuitive cover system and in-depth character customisation, senior producer Hugues Ricour and Ubisoft Singapore are touting Ghost Recon Online as a substantial instalment to the series.

Ghost Recon Online takes the best attributes of the Ghost Recon game franchise and brings them online, making the experience of being a Ghost accessible to millions of new players and fans.

Though the core game won’t cost a dime, there will of course be a number of premium options available to players such as weapon and costume packs as well as possible buffs including XP boosts.

With both Battlefield and Ghost Recon as well as other popular shooters, including Quake, now experimenting with the free-to-play platform, how long will it take Activision to come and grab a piece of the pie?

  1. Acti has a problem with FREE stuff i guess.

  2. While it does sound good, I wish Ubisoft would just pile their resources into GR:FS as it is continuously suffering delays.
