Epic & Nintendo Hacked, Bethesda Next?

Another day, another couple of games companies are hacked. Sony, Codemasters and Square Enix have already been targeted and over the weekend details emerged that Nintendo and Epic have also been compromised.

Epic were the first to admit they had a problem, and founder Tim Sweeney issued the following statement:

“Our Epic Games web sites and forums were recently hacked. After some downtime, they’re back up and running now.”

“The hackers may have obtained the email addresses and encrypted passwords of forum users. Plaintext passwords weren’t revealed, but it’s possible that those passwords could be obtained by a brute-force attack on the encrypted passwords.

“Therefore, we have reset all passwords. The Unreal Developer Network (UDN) hasn’t been compromised. Thankfully, none of our web sites ask for, or store, credit card information or other financial data.”

Nintendo have also discovered a ‘possible phishing threat’ on their website and have issued a statement.

“We have learnt of a possible phishing threat to users of the European Nintendo website which we are currently investigating.”

“The protection of our customers is our utmost priority and so we have taken the precaution of immediately shutting down some parts of this website until further notice. We would like to reassure you that we do not hold our customer’s bank, credit card or address details on the European Nintendo website and so this data is not at risk.”

Next on the hit list is Bethesda as hacking group Lulzsec tweeted their next target is the recently released shooter, Brink.

The same hacking group recently tweeted that PS3 owners should be grateful that they had a chance to ‘get some fresh air’ and should be thanking the hackers for the free games in the ‘Welcome Back’ package.

  1. Excuse my french, but i wish they’de just FUCK OFF & DIE!!
(Sorry, but i just had to get that off my chest)

  2. Xbox LIVE next. . .oh silly me, of course not because they(the hackers)are loyal to their favorite gaming brand :D
+ It’s strange how when MicroSoft last year banned all those hacked consoles, no one(i.e the hackers)did a thing? Hmm. . .

  3. Yawn.

  4. Dear Lulzsec,

Thank you for being so concerned over my health and the amount of fresh air that i have. There’s me thinking you were just after my details to sign up to the latest wrist exercise website as thats the only way you are ever going to see your preferred sex naked. It turns out that you were just being helpful and making sure i have enough fresh air.

Now on to the subject of the free games. If i wanted the games that badly then surely i would of bought them wouldn’t i. Now i’m grateful for Sony for giving us them but ask yourselves this. What would the average gamer want more. 2 months (ish) of PSN or two free games.

As for your thanks i’m sur you have alot people wanting to give it to you so reveal yourselves so that can happen

    Yours Sincerely
    A grateful fucking citizen
