Ubisoft: PS3 And Xbox 360 Price Cuts This Year

If you’re considering buying an Xbox 360 or PS3 in the future, you could be in luck.

Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, predicts that both Microsoft and Sony will slash their console prices before the year ends. Nintendo dropped the price of their Wii console a month ago, and Guillemot believes this may force Sony and Microsoft to follow.

Of course it wouldn’t be much of a surprise if Guillemot’s prediction is spot on. Both companies last cut their console prices around two years ago, and production costs will have dropped since then.

With Nintendo’s next console due to release sometime next year, the two giants will want consumers to purchase their consoles before more begin to consider buying a Wii U instead. A drop in price should be enough to increase sales numbers significantly.

Perhaps announcements at Gamescom or Tokyo Game Show are in the pipeline, in time for the holiday season.

    • The PS3 was number one on the PS3 charts…get outta town!

  2. Could coincide with the new models tested by FCC a few months ago: http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/new-ps3-models-hit-fcc-948527

    • Good find, you could be right!

    • Hmm maybe the CPU and GPU are built on a lower nm process and bigger HDD’s?

      • I’m just hoping for a usb on the back, but expecting its just larger hdd sizes.

  3. This is god news I’m up for buying both this year. I may get the 360 first and then the PS3 after xmas for the inevitable post holiday lull price slash.

  4. Great news if true. Planning on getting an Xbox for uni next year and a price drop would be stellar.

    • Not to mention that here in Canada Xboxes have been on sale VERY often lately for $249 or even $200 for the 250GB. Might be telling.

  5. May treat my son to a 360 if the price comes down. He’s 8 and seems to have grown out of his Wii.

  6. Hope so, if this turns out to be true I might get another PS3 for my room. Saves having to move it everytime I want to play while in bed ;)
