It’s the news RPG-loving trophy whores were dreading. A staff member over at the Bethesda blog has recently confirmed that the upcoming 5-year anniversary edition of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will not be receiving trophy support, despite high demand from fans:
User: Any release for PS3? Trophies and everything?
Staff: PC, PS3, and 360. Sorry, no trophies.
Oblivion isn’t the only re-release launching this summer that isn’t trophy compatible. Resistance: Fall of Man, the first half of the Resistance double pack, won’t be updated either. Insomniac has explained that reworking trophies into the experience would mean “re-opening” the project, something which they are unlikely to have the time or resources for with Resistance 3, Overstrike, and Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One in the pipeline.

Not surprising. With basically most of the team working on Skyrim and the rest working on other projects, to implement trophies would have taken up precious time they don’t have.
Ryan1991
Damn. Was getting ready to buy this again.
skibadee
so was I.
sabbat7001
Same here. I thought it was a good excuse to play it again. Oh well. I’ve experienced it once so…sale lost I guess.
Deathbrin
And it has achievements? Double fail.
Ryan1991
Yeah. Surely it can’t take up that much time and effort for these guys to chuck in a few already made up trophies?
Voganlight
Psyonix said it took them 20 minutes when implementing it for SARPBC.
Akuar
It can’t, and their choice of not doing so is an extremely odd and stupid one. It’ll most certainly hurt sales.

The 360 SDK and the PS3 SDK are two completely separate kits. The system that’s used for the achievements on 360 may not work the same as the Trophy system on PS3. Also, we don’t know how big or complex the achievement system on the 360 version was, so why use precious time to implement a trophy on the PS3 system that could be take a multi-gigabyte rewrite on a five-year-old game that could be glitched, or fine-tune one on a game that’s nearing completition?

The big problem is testing. Getting the code over is far more than a simple 20 minute copy/paste job. But even if that bit was done quickly, they would then need to get a QA team to play through the game, collecting each trophy in the various orders and combinations necessary to make sure that there are no bugs or glitches within the code.
Usually it’s OK in most games because they’re being QAd anyway, but it does, unfortunately, take a lot more effort than ctrl+C, ctrl+V..
BIGAL-1992
Exactly! It may have took 20 mins to implement it, but it took a hell of a lot more time to get it working properly.
Lord_Gremlin
It doesn’t include DLC. AND has no trophies… So, basically this is gimped Oblivion GOTY. Superior version available for less than $20.
TheDemocrodile
well… no sale here then :-(
MrTwP
Double no sale
Kled
No sale here either, was my very only request :(
BrainDiver
Another no sale. Looks like I will never play this game now…
tonycawley
I just don’t get it. I don’t understand why companies don’t see that trophies will get you a lot of sales, loads of them. There are a ridiculous amount of trophy whores out there (possibly including myself). Just a bad business decision.
kivi95
same here no re-buy from me.
gaffers101
Same here, shallow aren’t we….
PoorPaddy89
So is there any reason I should buy this over the Steam GOTY deluxe edition? Either way, although I have it on PS3 I would rather get it on PC. RPGs play better on PC I believe.
gazzagb
Hang on, so what does this re-release actually have then? Might as well just pick up the standard edition then, or, just wait for Skyrim.
gideon1451
I expected as much.
bacon_nuts
I’ve borrowed it from a mate, so wont be buying, finding it pretty addictive, storming through the main quest and joining any group that’ll have me. Skyrim looks infinitely better though.
xdarkmagician
If there was going to be trophies for this game I would have bought it, but without trophies this game will remain a memory of the 360. Bethesdsa you really F’ed this one up! This could have easily been the biggest game of July, but now it’s just a f@#king joke of another un-needed re-releases. It doesn’t even have all the DLC available.
