MW3 URL Leads To Battlefield 3 Website

If you were to punch www.modernwarfare3.com into your address bar, what would you expect to find? Chances are the URL would drop you into the official website for Activision’s upcoming blockbuster shooter, or at least bring you to the CoD franchise online hub. Well you would be wrong, in fact the mentioned address links directly to EA’s official homepage for eagerly anticipated rival, Battlefield 3.

EA have been known to take cracks at Call of Duty in the past, especially where Battlefield is concerned, however this isn’t a hoax conjured up by the global gaming publisher as Google caches prove. The domain was actually snapped up by an unknown user, who used it to vent their anger at the Call of Duty series with outbursts such as:

Modern Warfare is crap. On November 8, 2011, the most over-hyped first-person action series of all-time returns with the copy and paste sequel to the lackluster Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Check out the E3 2011 gameplay demo featuring the Black Tuesday level for a look at the epic fail of the campaign. Pre-Order Call of Duty MW3 Today for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC to secure exclusive bonuses only available online for Modern Warfare 3 fanboys who don’t know that Battlefield 3 is the better game.

Sure, the whole fiasco has kicked up a few giggles, but there is still a killer question that remains: why didn’t Activision acquire the rights for the “modernwarfare3” domain name? Each year we reel in dozens of stories regarding publishers and the stockpile of domains they haul in to make sure they have all bases covered when it comes to promoting a product via the web.

  1. If I had that domain, I’d slap some google ads on there quick smart. Stick a link to Battlefield 3 if that’s your bag but make some money off it while you can!

  2. Also, how did they miss that? It’s not like it’s a bizarre spelling or something. Surely it would be on any list of possible domains to acquire.

  3. Some people are just so sadly pathetic.

  4. it was funny until he ranted then it just became a fanboy attack. should’ve just had a link to a punch of adverts for battlefield 3

  5. Whta’s making me chuckle is not the silly websites, it’s the COD fanboys who are having to be defensive rather than offensive. Quite amusing watching them squirm, but then I’m just evil and like inflicting pain. Mwahahahah *cracks whip*

  6. Oh dear.

I have zero time for anyone who derives more pleasure from ripping something to shreds rather than focusing on the product they like or prefer.

Maybe I’m just getting old but some people really need to grow up. Be happy in the fact that you’re in a priviledged position to have the time and money to play videogames. There are surely bigger life issues at hand.

    *sigh*

  7. What a lucky guy, guess he must of played BF3 to know it’s the better game. Whilst amusing, he really needs to put his energy into something my positive, what an idiot.

  8. MW3 is so last year.

  9. Great idea, horrible execution.

  10. This made me chuckle. For a second I thought this was another hack.
