MW3 URL Leads To Battlefield 3 Website

If you were to punch www.modernwarfare3.com into your address bar, what would you expect to find? Chances are the URL would drop you into the official website for Activision’s upcoming blockbuster shooter, or at least bring you to the CoD franchise online hub. Well you would be wrong, in fact the mentioned address links directly to EA’s official homepage for eagerly anticipated rival, Battlefield 3.

EA have been known to take cracks at Call of Duty in the past, especially where Battlefield is concerned, however this isn’t a hoax conjured up by the global gaming publisher as Google caches prove. The domain was actually snapped up by an unknown user, who used it to vent their anger at the Call of Duty series with outbursts such as:

Modern Warfare is crap. On November 8, 2011, the most over-hyped first-person action series of all-time returns with the copy and paste sequel to the lackluster Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Check out the E3 2011 gameplay demo featuring the Black Tuesday level for a look at the epic fail of the campaign. Pre-Order Call of Duty MW3 Today for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC to secure exclusive bonuses only available online for Modern Warfare 3 fanboys who don’t know that Battlefield 3 is the better game.

Sure, the whole fiasco has kicked up a few giggles, but there is still a killer question that remains: why didn’t Activision acquire the rights for the “modernwarfare3” domain name? Each year we reel in dozens of stories regarding publishers and the stockpile of domains they haul in to make sure they have all bases covered when it comes to promoting a product via the web.

  1. Trolls will keep on trolling, but I’m still getting both ;)

  2. Taken as a practical joke this is really quite funny, though I agree if the creator was serious in his hate for Modern Warfare this is taking it a bit far.

  3. Hehe, that’s cheeky.

  4. True fact

The ModernWarfare2 domain ran into cyber-squatting complications, immediately I bought the ModernWarfare3 domain, had my transaction processed, received confirmation & everything – then 2 weeks later I received an email saying the transaction had been declined.

Activision should really have learnt from MW2 & snapped up MW3 & so on, but also… it should be me, although they can obtain this domain any time they want without compensation to the domain owner, such is the way with trademark infringing cyber-squatting

    • Which is why they should get some ads on there and make as much as they can before they lose it.

  5. I wonder if Acti will sue the person who brought the domain? If the person have not been killed by a COD addict. I nearly got killed for stating my honest opinion. They blew up the Stevecave.:(

It seems a bit odd that Acti didn’t buy the domain for MW3 seeing as it is one of their biggest games of the year.I wonder if this is the start of a massive fanboy war?*ducks for cover*

  6. ahhhh stop hating on cod ffs

    • Never gonna happen, lots of people on the internet seem to take joy in the bashing CoD and susequently because they dislike CoD that makes them a better player, a more informed gamer and intellectually superior to those who do like CoD. Its a huge bug-bear of mine and I’m not even a CoD fanboy, just a fan of games that I enjoy.

  7. As funny and embarrassing as this is…..he hasn’t layed wither game…….

  8. Someone’s been busy, modernwarefare5.com and modernwarfare6.com don’t seem to be available, but you can still have modernwarfare7.com if you fancy playing the long game :)

  9. i did chuckle at that, the ‘copy & paste sequel’ so true

  10. Lol too funny!
