It appears that the Uncharted 3 beta is serving its purpose; to root out any nasty bugs before retail release. Naughty Dog has posted the following on its website:
“Earlier today, July 12, we started getting reports that some users were logging back into the Uncharted 3 Multiplayer Beta and finding that their progress in the game has been reset. Many players have had to re-accept the online agreement when logging in to the Beta and their profile shows they are at level 1, with no XP accumulated or Cash remaining in their profile.
We’re actively looking into what caused the issue so we can prevent it from happening in the future. IF you were one of the players affected by this profile reset, here’s the scoop:
The GOOD news is that your progress towards those rewards has NOT been lost – we still have all of your detailed play history by game stored safely and ALL games you have played in the past and are playing right now WILL be counted towards your overall progress.
The BAD news is that we won’t be able to update your profile back to your current level, cash and unlocks. Unfortunately, that means all affected players will not be able to check their progress towards the requirements for the Beta rewards. We won’t be able to update your profile or even look up if you had 1,000 XP or 100,000 XP left before hitting level 25 before the Uncharted 3 Beta ends.
Finding these kinds of issues early is (thankfully) what a Beta period is for.”

Not too fussed personally as I only made it as far as level 10. Fantastic beta overall and done in plenty of time for Naughty Dog to iron out the kinks before release.
Looks like R3 is going to opt for the same aproach as KZ3 however and release a beta very close to the final release date. I can never understand this as surely they are not giving themselves enough time to take player feedback onboard and do something with it :(

That’s because its a demo, not a beta. I really don’t know why they call it a beta. It’s possibly just a part of the marketing strategy. There used to be an air of exclusivity and coolness to participating in a beta. These days, however, everybody is in on it, so it doesn’t even work as a marketing gimmick. So completely pointless.

The Resistance 3 beta is on at the moment, just not for everyone to access. I should know as I’m in it.

@Clone555, yeah I know what you mean. I remember participating in a beta years ago and feeling really important. Now most betas feel like large demos. That said, making betas public gives the devs a better opportunity to stress-test their servers I suppose

I’ve enjoyed the beta on and off. I love the Uncharted series (platinumed both 1& 2…although the glitch in 1 meant it didn’t appear), but I found myself getting bored of the MP very quickly. I’m still buying the game though, that’s a given.

The one thing that is a huuuge plus for me is not only can you play split screen online, but you can sign an alternate account in for the second player, saving their progress. Such a simple addition that improves the online so much!

I believe you get some extra credits to spend in the full release should you make it to level25 in the beta :) Similar approach to “hey! you’ve completed uncharted1. have some credits on us!” seen in Uncharted2 I guess

I love the Yemen map. I had a 10 killstreak against players in their 15-20 ranks whilst I’m on 6. I felt happy as I tend to die alot and complain that it takes forever to kill -_-
