Apple has been doing some tinkering with the prices you can expect to pay when downloading stuff from the App Store.
It is being reported that this is to bring everything into line with current exchange rates.
Some locations will be paying more, some less. Here’s a breakdown of the lowest price band:
- UK: £0.59 -> £0.69
- Australia: AU$1.19 -> AU$0.99
- Japan: 115 -> 85 Yen
- Mexico: $10 -> $12
- Switzerland: 1.10Fr -> 1.00Fr
- Norway: 6.00Kr -> 7.00Kr
This is the biggest outrage since Space Raider crisps went from 10p to 20p.*

I know it’s only 10p but it’ll add up and I’m sure some of the bigger prices apps have also gone up in price. Would have been nice for Apple tom give us a warning.

If it’s to do with rates, why do none of these have a consistent increase? All 6 are different percentages. Baws.

That’s what has bugged me. I understand the price increase due to exchange rates etc but these don’t seem right if that is the reason.

Fair enough, the British Pound isn’t a great currency, and i always thought Apple were very fair with their App Store exchange rates anyway. These rates are still less than the differences in PSN pricing.

From what I’ve been hearing; some devs on stores such as the Japanese store where the set pricing has dropped, they have increased the price of their apps in order to combat the price drop.

I see it applies to in-app purchases, too. My tower bux in Tiny Tower now cost a little more, 59p now 69p, the £2.99 purchase is still £2.99 and the £17.99 purchase is £20.99.

Can you imagine the outcry had this happen on the PSN store. I remember a lot of people wren’t happy when a lot of PSone games started being released at £3.99 instead of £3.49
For smaller purchases it doesn’t seem much but for some of the “larger” ones it can add up quite quickly. The increase is between 15 and 17 percent. That is quite a hike.

i agree for smaller items it’s not a big deal, what can you buy for 10p these days, not even a pack of space raiders anymore. :(
but for higher priced items it’ll mount up.
as for the psn, i wish ps1 games were still £3.99, £7.99 seems like it’s becoming the norm thanks to square.

£7.99 is stupidly high. It’s even worse when you have the disc sitting in your house too but just want to be able to play it on your psp. I’d rather wait and hope they appear on ps+ than pay that. £3.99 I’m ok with.

it’d be a bit of a cheek putting up the prices of uk shows in the uk then blaming the exchange rate.
in fact that question should apply to any content sold in its country of origin.
