Meet the Reader: Death_in_Flamez

That’s a good mix of consoles in there. Are there any games that stand out from the rest? Do you tend to fall into a particular genre of gaming?

Well I tend to fall into either shooters or racing, although I do enjoy adventure games or platformers, along the lines of inFamous, Uncharted, and LittleBigPlanet. Yet, my absolute favourite game of all time was Star Wars Battlefront 2 simply as it was my first proper shooter. It’s a shame that a sequel as yet to see the light of day, but the PSP Remastered series does give me hope one of the PSP sequels will get a proper outing on PS3.

Star Wars? Traitor! Oh wait, I promised not to make any more Trekkie jokes.

Haha, well don’t worry, I own Star Trek: Encounters, Legacy and Conquest.

Star Trek and Star Wars are both pretty notorious for having mainly rubbish video game translations. What’s the worst or most embarrassing game you’ve played?

Oooh, to quote everyone, “that’s a tricky one.” Well the worst game I have ever played I think would have to be the official Scrabble game for PS2. I do not lie, it exists.

[drop]

Does it not compare to the board game?

To be honest, I couldn’t even get passed the menu; it was too hard for my brain to navigate at the time. Gameplay was horrific when I did play. The tiles didn’t line up completely, and the animations were sub par.

Sounds positively delightful. You’ve a sibling or two, I believe. Do they also game? Is there a bit of familial rivalry going on?

My brother has a Wii, but he’s very much the casual gamer and only enjoys LittleBigPlanet on the PS3.

Bit of co-op, then? Well, when you’re not slapping him off the side of a cliff.

Nope, he plays it with others online, although we do have a nasty rivalry on Mario Kart.

What’s the head-to-head record?

He wins more than me, ’nuff said!

So when you’re not eating, sleeping, gaming, schooling or on TSA, what do you do with your time?

I’m a keen watcher of sports, with F1 in the driving seat at the moment, and like to play the keyboard as well. I also enjoy going out with mates to the shops.

Not in a bike gang or something like that, then?

Contrary to belief, I’m not part of the Monument Valley Motorcycle Club… I never owned that game!

Do you have grand aspirations for your life? Astronaut? Fireman?

Captain of the Starship Enterprise! In all seriousness I would like to either be an actor or hit big with my band.

Do the rest of your band consist of Benjamin Sisko on bass, Jean-Luc Picard on vocals and a Kathryn Janeway on drums?

In another universe probably!

You could be called ‘Captain on Deck’ or something equally embarrassing. You did mention the other day about your one trip to a Star Trek convention…

Ah yes, at the time I absolutely hated Star Trek, but some proper Trekkies were so impressed with my name they genuinely asked for an autograph and photo!

Trekkies are crazy! On that note, I think we’ll wrap this up for another week. Do you have any final words for your crew?

Remember peeps, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few… That is all, Kirk out.

Thanks to William Shatner for taking the time out from his busy schedule of being an absolute legend to come and do this interview. It’s good to see TSA appealing to all sorts of people! If you too are named after a fictional character, or just sound like a superhero’s real name, don’t hesitate to put your name down in the sign up thread here.

  1. Star Trek rulez. Star Wars suckz.
Z’s are cool. Not as cool as 3 instead of e though.

    • On that note my original idea for my username was JUGG3RN4UT!

  2. haha, that’s awesome. Bet you love telling people of a professional manner your name, or at least, filling it in on forms :D. When you get a cold call from a marketing company, do you ask them to call you Captain?

    • Haha I love to tell people the origin of my name :3 I have to love it otherwise it would get VERY annoying :P

  3. Hah! That made me chuckle. Nice to meet you James. Well done on a great name, and (a rather late) welcome along to TSA.

SARPBC is tons of fun, loved it so far… And as I’m pretty new to it I’m sure it’ll only grow on me. Seems like everyone else has something positive to say about it too. Don’t forget there is a meet later y’all.

  4. Nice to meet you james. The SARPBC meets will be the first time i’ve played online with or against you. Looking forward to it.

  7. When I flew to America, our pilot was Captain Kirk. Awesome name!

    • My Grandad in World War II was also a Captain Kirk :D Cheers :D

  8. Zeds are indeed awesome, when they’re gently raising from my body and floating away into the stratosphere.

Sorry, I was quite literally daydreaming there. Top name, good read and jolly nice to make your acquaintance.

    • You’re going to have to meet a barman with another Star Trek relevant name and become partial to a popular brand of Bourbon. ;)

  9. Battlefront 2 was an amazing game, would love to either see it getting the HD treatment, or seeing Battlefront 3.

  10. Nice to meet everyone and thanks for the lovely feedback :) Hopefully I’ll be able to meet all of you lot in the future!
