BBC iPlayer on PS3 is to get a make over and will move from using the creaky PS3 web browser to a standalone app.
The new app has been built from scratch with new features including viewer recommendations and a “vastly improved” search function.
As well as a new app, more shows from the BBC archive will be added to the service and programs will be available for longer than seven days.
Rather oddly the BBC do not seem to mention the best feature of the upgrade, look closely at the screenshot below and you will see the PS3 is getting BBC HD.
Huzzah!

So this is where the money not being spent on the F1 in 2012 is going! Gotta say it looks super special, now all we need is the ability to listen to live radio on our ipods and we’re there!

Perhaps they’re ironing out bugs still, or my Internet has gotten worse in the last hour, but for me it’s soooo slow. It won’t load anything for me. Hmm not pleased unless there’s a way to revert back to the old version.

Just tried this out and have to say it is the mutts nuts. Worked perfectly for me so can’t be of any help to those having difficulties, sorry.

Appreciate the access to HD now but the new browser is awful.

well for me i like the new layout but they just need to simplify it a bit more, the app idea is brilliant but pointless considering you cant access the XMB when people message you it was my gripe with love film aswell.
if you use the web browser to goto http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer you get the web page that looks the same as the app with xmb control havent tried watching any content yet knowing the ps3 web browser the links will be broke lol

This is awesome news! Will definitely be using the HD more now.

Great news for the HD addition, and also that it won’t be using the browser anymore.

well in the old browser i could watch anything and it worked first time, and played all the way through, i even watched torchwood in hd on the old browser version (yes it was there) now on the new iplayer and whilst i appreciate it may just be teething bugs, i cant watch 3 mins on the lowest setting without it freezing and the app has already crashed my slim. hope its just a one off teething problem but so far im a little dissapointed

I saw this in the sun today but all I really care about is the hd. Glad its moving from the browser though.
