WeView: Super Meat Boy

I’ve had a few requests for some smaller games to be featured in WeView, and whilst Super Meat Boy might not exactly be tiny it’s still certainly not the biggest title in the world either. It’s also the first downloadable title we’ve done, even if it is making a disk release very soon.

Not only is Super Meat Boy our first downloadable title, it’s the first game we’ve done that didn’t have a review to draw from. Well that’s not quite true, we didn’t give it a formal review. If you remember back to last year Alex, in general the king of tough gaming here at TSA Towers, had to admit that he simply couldn’t beat the game. No beating the game then no score, it’s only fair.

However, Alex did manage to write something about it before slinking home with his tail between his legs. To put it simply he absolutely loved it.

Super Meat Boy is probably the single best thing on the system. It’s addictive, clever, nice looking (the trails of blood as you romp around each level are deliciously fun), always fair but utterly hardcore.

The throwbacks to 8-bit gaming are everywhere (not least in the ‘nostalgia’ levels where the game goes all old-school visually and aurally), the hidden characters are amazing and for gamers that like a challenge it’s not hard to recommend this one.

This is as pure a game as there’s ever been and one that deserves to be tried.

Best thing on the system? Doesn’t get any better than that. However, given the sheer brutality inflicted upon anyone who dares to actually sit down with the game I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that it might end up being a little divisive. So, as per normal its time to ask what you thought of Super Meat Boy.

If you want to share your your opinion about Meat Boy’s adventures just head over to the forums and leave us your thoughts on the game. Whilst I’m not going to discount longer reviews, please remember that the aim is for short, snappy opinions. More than that I simply don’t have the time to wade through longer reviews, so if you want to have your opinion included in the verdict post try to keep it short.

Once you’ve written your review make sure you give it a score on the Buy It, Bargain Bin It, Rent It, Avoid It scale. Remember, if you want your score and opinion included in Monday’s verdict post you need to have it done by Sunday afternoon, otherwise I’ll have written it and you’ll be left out in the cold.

  1. Fisrt i’ve heard of the title.

    • Not meant in a negative way. The above article has me interested in this game.

      • same here, never heard of it at all. Will be good to see TSAers impressions on it then

  2. Buy it! Buy it now!
I was playing it on my flatmates PC and all these months away from it over the summer are killing me. Can’t wait for the mac port.

Isn’t it also the first title to be considered for a WeView not to have been released on PS3?

    • “Not on ps3.” Explains why it flew under my radar:)

  4. No I’m sure there has been ONE xbox one I think, but with not many participants. Might be thinking of Tweak It though. I’ll probably check out SMB because of this :)

Thanks for selecting a quieter area of gaming this week Chris :)

  5. *Kris. Sorry :P

  6. Love this game. One of the toughest/best games out there.

  7. Still stuck in hell :(

  8. Good choice for a less mainstream game for ‘We View’ that people had requested. Will be interested to see the result because although the difficulty will turn some people off, I don’t see how anyone could say the game isn’t good at what it does.
