PS3 Firmware 3.70 Hits A Snag?

We’ve been contacted by a TSA reader regarding some issues with PS3 firmware 3.70, and by searching the old Interweb it seems that he is by no means alone with his problem.

“Basically, since the release of Firmware 3.70 earlier last week which added new features for PlayStation Plus members, the ‘Auto Updates’ feature isn’t working. The console no longer updates game patches, finishes downloads you have pending, and more importantly, does not automatically upload save game files when you choose a game to have this enabled.

This was a new feature, but many of us can’t get it to work, and actually can’t get the entire ‘Automatic Updates’ feature to work anymore.”

This doesn’t seem to be happening to everyone, as some are reporting that their auto updates are working perfectly. Is anyone here having any problems or, more importantly, has anyone found a solution? As of yet calls to Sony customer support have had no success.

Thanks, Jay

  1. As a very recent subscriber, I only turned on this feature since 3.70 – I didn’t know it was meant to give you messages saying what it’s done and all. I’ve never had any messages of the kind!

  2. from what I read in a post made by a scee member of staff it appeared that some people had this issue from the firmware before 3.70, for some reason the ps3 turns off the updates even though they are listed as being on, my auto updates was working then I changed the time I wanted it to activate and it has stopped working, I believe if you switch it off then switch it back on with the time you want it should start working again.

  3. Been a PS+ subscriber since launch. Auto download of patches was working, now nothing. Game saves are not uploading to the cloud. Very frustrating and little feedback from Sony on the official PS forum (sorry I’m on my phone so can’t link to the thread).

  4. My first notification of uploaded saves came yesterday, and I’d had it switched on since the FW update last week. So if it wasn’t working for me before, it is now.

  5. ITV Player and 4oD vanished from my PS3. It’s not a big concern since I barely use them and I can always access them by other means.

    • You need to re-activate them in ‘May Channels’ under TV/Video (which should now be right next to the Game section on the XMB).

If they are simply not there, deleting & redownloading Vidzone has worked for a few people i know.

    • *’My Channels’, not ‘May Channels’!!

We are way past May now! XD

  6. A lot of people can’t get all the TV players either, so if the ‘improvements’ don’t work, we’ve done nothing but lose features

    • I had that problem. The entire TV section disappeared. I got them back by starting a game up. That brought back ‘My Channels’. I then downloaded the Itv and 4 links and iPlayer app. Since then, they’re always there on startup :-)

  7. ***SOLUTION HERE!!***
I had the problem too. All you have to do is change the time slot that you have it updating at. I had mine between 6pm and 8pm, changed it to 10pm – 12am and it’s working fine now!

    ***WORKED FOR ME, ANYWAY…***

  8. Works fine for me.

Original phat 60gb ps3 and ps+ member since launch.

  9. Those that are not having any problem…please can you post the following:

    1) Is date/time set to ‘update via internet’ or ‘manual’
    2) Have you manually set up a ‘DMZ’ in your PS3/Router settings?

    Thanks

  10. On my main ps3, a slim, no updates, no tv but on my old phat, I have tv & no problems? Weird! Will try the time change thing though.
