PS3 Firmware 3.70 Hits A Snag?

We’ve been contacted by a TSA reader regarding some issues with PS3 firmware 3.70, and by searching the old Interweb it seems that he is by no means alone with his problem.

“Basically, since the release of Firmware 3.70 earlier last week which added new features for PlayStation Plus members, the ‘Auto Updates’ feature isn’t working. The console no longer updates game patches, finishes downloads you have pending, and more importantly, does not automatically upload save game files when you choose a game to have this enabled.

This was a new feature, but many of us can’t get it to work, and actually can’t get the entire ‘Automatic Updates’ feature to work anymore.”

This doesn’t seem to be happening to everyone, as some are reporting that their auto updates are working perfectly. Is anyone here having any problems or, more importantly, has anyone found a solution? As of yet calls to Sony customer support have had no success.

Thanks, Jay

  1. And i blame the London Riots on the ‘Firmware 3.70’ update. . . :D

  2. Come to think of it, my auto update hasn’t worked since 3.70.

  3. Gamesave backup and downloads have been working for me OK but game patches have been not.

FW 3.70 did not auto-download either when I thought it should have.

    • Yeah it didn’t auto download for me either. Had to do it manually.

  4. This solution worked straight away for me.
    1. Go to ‘Date and Time Settings’ and then choose ‘Set by Internet’.
    2. Then go to ‘Network Settings’ and do an ‘Internet Connection Test’.
    3. Then manually sync your trophies.
    4. Change the Automatic Update time slot to the time it is now.
    5. Then turn off the console.

The console should automatically turn back on to start the Auto update and Download.
I can’t guarantee that it will work for everyone, but it worked for me. (Solution found on The Official Playstation Forums.)

    • This is the only thing that’s worked for me. Thanks. Just hope this has fixed it permanently and it’ll be auto-updating by itself from now on.

    • temp fix, not a solution.

  5. PoisonedAce – that was me that posted that, glad it worked. How many times has it auto updated?

    • Just the once actually. Do you know if you have to do it every time you want it to auto update? Plus I’ve noticed that it has only uploaded half my game saves. Any ideas?

      • No idea I’m afraid. I’m in the same position as you. I’m pretty sure we’ll see a firmware update shortly to fix these errors!

  6. If I enable game save upload for any blu-ray title the console stops loading blu-rays and instead gives an error. I have to disable it to get discs to load again. Been like it from the moment I updated. Sony’s silence is deafening.

    • Nightmare. It asks me about uploading my saves and I select yes but it never does anything though. Hope Sony sort it sooner rather than later.

  7. My auto game saves is working fine, I’ll just have to wait and see if the auto download is working.

  8. I think i’m good, bar pending downloads not finishing.

    • *update
auto update wont initiate at all now.

  9. I urge everyone with this problem to call Sony support and make them aware you, and hundreds of others are having the same problem, otherwise they won’t know about it.

  10. Another firmware update, another problem. Glad I got rid of that shit.
