Sony Tablets Get Release Window and Price for US

The two PlayStation certified tablets from Sony have been given a release window. The traditional shaped tablet, formally known as the S1, will go on sale later this month for $500. It’ll also now be known as the Tablet S.

The clam shell device, which was known as the S2, will go on sale in November, although no price has been set. From here on in it will be known as the Tablet P.

Rumours of a new phone, named ‘preparation H’, have yet to be confirmed.

  1. I thought Austin Powers killed all the ‘Preparation H’ jokes a long time ago, seems not.

Anyway, the S1 is interesting and Sony Centers in the UK are accepting pre-orders for the 3 types:

    16gb WIFI: £399.00 inc
    32gb WIFI: £479.00 inc
    16gb 3G+WIFI: £499.00 inc.

  2. the names sound like euthanasia pills from some dystopian sci fi.

  3. Preparation H – surely that was the PS Move o_0
    £500 quid – yeesh!

  4. I never did get all the jokes about preparation h. Perhaps I’m missing something? Cream for treatment of piles shouldn’t be that funny should it?

  5. i saw a cool looking vid showing now the playstation controls will work while playing PSone games which looks intresting. also it comes with crash bandicoot 1

    • On screen controls for the PS Suite is a thing of the past, now that you can sync your PS3 controller via Bluetooth with an app on your rooted Android tablet.

  6. Does it have Garageband?

  7. The clam shell “tablet” will cost you 599$ in the 16 GB 3G version, from what I read on Engadget. Seems pretty ridiculous if you ask me. Not too impressed by the S1 either. The shape makes it unusable when you lay it flat on the table and want to use it in portrait mode. The top side is a little too thick for my taste anyways. Will stick with the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
The Galaxy Tab 7.7 however seems to be a beast of a device. 7.7″ 720p SAMOLED+ display with 1.4 GHz dual core CPU.

  8. That’s the worst name I’ve ever heard ;)

I preferred S1 and 2 as it was cool and mysterious, a bit like how Natal had no meaning, but was a cool name.

Still, it’s not about the name, is it?

    • Meh, to an extent it is. Why the wii got ripped so much at announcement.. I think the names are a bit dull to be honest.. Unlike Vita, which I think is good, and more memorable.

  9. As there ever been tablets that have costed below £200?

    • I don’t know about the UK but I think in the US they had a few Android 2.X tablets with small screens and cheap hardware. Pretty noname devices but technically they count, right? :P

      • Here you go: Lenovo just announced the 199$ IdeaPad A1.

    • Look on ebay, my brother got one for $80 Aussie Dollars (about 55 pounds) it’s pretty basic but he only wanted it for web browsing anyway.

    • Well thats the point, if its around £500, and with things like the Vita and new phones, then whats the point of getting a tablet?

Never understood the hype with Tablets….

  10. Tablets? Weird haha iPad, galaxy tab, optimus prime (asus) they are tablets, but Sony now are releasing tablet s? Name just makes no sense to me lmao
