The PlayStation 3 had six months to a year of slowly trying to gather momentum. Those who bought the Nintendo 3DS are currently going through that same slow grind of having little to play and always watching the horizon for new prospects. The PlayStation Vita, it seems, will have no such worries.
Announced titles for Sony’s latest handheld hope are positively stacking up now. Here are several more that we’ve got wind of, although we’re not sure how we’re going to cope with the expense of them all.
Well, it seems like Lumines is coming, according to a thread on GAF and a few very convincing screenshots like the one below. Ubisoft have apparently claimed to make use of some of Vita’s social wizardry but we’re not sure how until they deign to tell us more about the game. We’d like it for a launch game though, just like the original launched the PSP in 2004.
DJ Max Technika is next up. Apparently this arcade game has been a bit of an underground hit and now its Korean developers are bringing it to the Vita. Expect a tap-and-slide music rhythm game which utilises front and rear touch panels.
Next we have SumiOni, a kind of… well, we’re not sure but it looks a lot like Okami mixed with a sideways platforming brawler. Players seem to need to use the touchscreen to draw Kanji which then acts like a spell… I guess? Nice visual style but since it’s all in Japanese and Kovacs, our Japanese speaker, has left us to work for The Man, I’m only guessing.

Andriasang has dug up some screens for another very Japanese-looking game. Dream Club Zero has previously been seen on the PSP and Xbox 360. It appears to involve karaoke, drinking and hostess bars. Okay.
We’re only just over half way through these. Crazy, huh?
Sticking with Andriasang‘s sleuthing skills, the site has posted screens from Ragnarok Odyssey. We’re assuming it’s a JRPG based on the myth of Ragnarok, which is similar to the Christian Armageddon story but set in Norse mythology. Expect dragons, snakes and lightning then.
Another tip from Andriasang is this trailer for Moe Moe Daisensou GenDaibaan ++ (yes, really) which is, we’re assured, some sort of strategy game. It might be a bit like Advance Wars.
Lastly, there has been a slew of Ubisoft Vita games semi-announced. As well as the aforementioned Lumines, we’ve got Michael Jackson The Experience HD making its way onto portables as well as Rayman Origins leaping to Vita and DarkQuest Alliance (picture below), which seems to be some kind of co-op dungeon crawler. This could quite possibly be the Dungeon Hunter game previously mentioned by Ubisoft and Gameloft.
That’s a lot of games for such a small device. Sony certainly seem to be getting ahead of themselves in plenty of time to wow early adopters. We should stress that there are no release dates locked down and that some of these games might not even make it outside of Asia but signs are promising for a spirited start to the Vita’s life.
It’s somewhat reassuring that there seems to be a very healthy mix of game styles and sizes there too.

I think a slew of titles are needed to help vita along. people have turned on 3DS because of the lack of games. but it cant just be BANG there is 30 launch games and then nothing for months. sony have to be carful with launch windows to keep releases coming and keeping the content fresh. they dont want another psp.

Slightly misleading title as none of these have actually been confirmed for launch! The 3DS had loads of games announced when it was first revealed as well, many of which we are still waiting for now. Interesting nonetheless, I like the look of SumiOni especially, lovely art style.

Both the subtitle and the opening blurb about PSV owners not having to wait for long before having a large list of titles available, as opposed to the PS3 or 3DS release. For all we know, all of these titles could be released 6 months to a year after launch. Misleading is probably too strong a word really, but it definitely sends a bit of a confused message.

I can see myself trading in/selling my 3DS to buy the PS Vita instead. I’ve barely used it and the free downloadable games i’d rather play on their original consoles :P

Going to say something very controversial… From what I’ve heard the PSV is easy to convert PS3 games. If they have a steady stream of AAA games along side some classic ports I will definitely buy it. I know how ports were the PSP’s downfall, but imagine being able to play some of the early PS3 games like Oblivion, Mass effect 2, GTA. Imagine they allow cross platform saves as well. Would be incredible. I love some of these old games but never managed to complete them 100% as they are too huge and would definitely buy them again – or some top ones I never got round to playing first time like Final Fantasy 13….

I’m sure there’s a lot of people that would love MGS4 on the PSV, especially as PSV has trophies from launch.
Playing Ratchet and Clank on PSV with PS3 players at the same time? There are still loads of things that could done. The online intergration and the extra stick should mean ports aren’t such an issue.
MS may have the timed exclusive COD maps but Sony can pull a few strings to get PS3 vs PSV online COD included that could see a huge increase in sales of the PS3 version.
