Hello! It’s my turn to do a WeView post this week, as both Kris and Peter are no doubt stumbling back from Eurogamer, desperately trying to stay awake lest someone mugs them in ‘That London’.
As you can see, the game I have picked for discussion is Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. With Need for Speed: The Run fast approaching, now is a good time to go and check out what is (in my opinion) a fantastic racer. Developed by arcade racing Gods and makers of Burnout, Criterion, the game was released in November of last year, just before that other racing game came out. Gran Turismo something or other.
It scored well in our review, with the conclusion being:
“Hot Pursuit is a refreshing reboot for a series that’s become tired and disjointed, with Criterion’s grip tightly controlling the direction of the game as much as the publisher. As a result, this latest Need for Speed is the best it’s been for years, and although it’s naturally not going to be a game for everyone (and up against the juggernaut of Sony’s exclusive Gran Turismo 5 next week) anyone looking for a solid racing game this Christmas with a significant emphasis on online competition should find this is well worth investigating.”
As well as the whole ‘Cops and Racers’ angle, Hot Pursuit also introduced us to the Autolog feature, which took friendly rivalry to a whole new level, and weapons, making it easier to take an opponent down.
It wasn’t all chocolates and roses though, with a couple of noticeable issues. Criterion decided to lock the game at thirty frames per second, rather than sixty, so it lost some sensation of speed. The courses were also a bit too open for my liking. The big sticking point, though, was the handling. Some people really couldn’t get on with it, whilst other people had no problems at all.
If you feel like taking part and sharing your thoughts just head over to the forums and leave us your thoughts on the game. Whilst longer reviews won’t be discounted, please remember that the aim is for short, snappy opinions.
Once you’ve written your review make sure you give it a score on the Buy It, Bargain Bin It, Rent It, Avoid It scale. Remember, if you want your score and opinion included in Monday’s verdict post you need to have it done by Sunday afternoon, otherwise Kris will have written it and you’ll be left out in the cold.

A fantastic game that for some reason i have just not managed to get back to to finish off.
Will pop a weview in the forum if i get the chance.
Smallville2106
I’m the same. Everytime I play it, I really enjoy it but then I just seem to get sucked into a different game and then don’t touch it for ages.
moshi
Good choice of game. I would be very pleased if they released a sequel.
Peco
First NFS game I ever bought after watching a mate playing it. Had never seen the appeal in the series before, and I didn’t buy the one that came after this, but Hot Pursuit is brilliant.
Deathbrin
Only just got the game few weeks ago on PC. :)
Sympozium
Cool…cool, you better make me buy it!! or there’ll be trouble!!! Its quite tempting on pc…but I know it as problems :O

Awesome game. Definately one of my favourite racers this generation. Not going to bother writing a review for this one as they seem to end up being too long and I struggle to get my view across in short, punchy sentances heh.
Kennykazey
Perhaps the second best NFS in my opinion, losing the top-spot only to Most Wanted.
Deathbrin
That’s my fav. :)
E8_BALL_
Mine too,so far anyhow. Picking up hot pursuit next month, see if it has same impact as m.wanted.(hope there are some souls still playing online.)
Sympozium
It was okay but not the greatest…
yogdog
Most wanted was awesome!
Foxhound_Solid
Underground 2 was my fave…..
ProjectJAY
Had this game for a while on PS3 but I’ve yet to get round to playing it. Is the user base still plentiful?
Kennykazey
Unfortunately, no. If you want to play online, than Race in Super-class is about the only way to find a nicely filled server.
E8_BALL_
Mental note. Nice one Kenny.
Origami Killer
Probably the second worst NFS for me (prostreet being the worst). Really didn’t enjoy it and will give my view on it, this time i’ll put avoid it to save myself looking stupid
Forrest_01
I take it that you never played NFS Undercover then? lol
Origami Killer
yes I have, actually enjoyed it far more than hot pursuit ;) Only ones I haven’t played are the shift series. Apart from that I am actually a big NFS fan. :P
Forrest_01
Fair enough – I thought that undercover was pretty awful tbh, but i did stick with it for the plat. There was a decent game there, it was just marred by all that dodgy hammy acting & glitches & stuff.
Oh & my advice? If you like the NFS series, don’t bother with Shift – Just a GT wannabe as far as i can see from what i played & nothing like NFS at all (IMO of coourse).
Origami Killer
Yeah there were a lot of issues but I loved it for some strange reason, not quite a plat on it for me but a decent amount of palytime and trophies. Exactly why I didn’t bother with Shift, looked too much like GT and GRID.
cam the man
This was the first game in the series that I haven’t bought, I wasn’t impressed with what I saw/read about it.

Something canged inthe NFS seres since hot persuit… the conrols went mad… I recently finished getting the offline trophies, and the controls were slightly annoying, athough not as annoying as the crash cut-scenes (which meat you culd only take down a racer one at a time.
Then with Shift 2, the controls gt a lot worse, it’s a game that’s hard to enjoy because of them, especially after playing GT5, where any steering is instant, and doesn’t take half a second to respond, resulting in making you line worse.
