Meet the Reader: Kevatron400

I think I’ve heard that suggestion once or twice. Well, now that thingy’s been sacked as director, it’s wide open again. Heading back to Mass Effect 2, do you feel that you want to play it through again? See how the other side lives, and make different choices?

In some ways yes, but I think if I was playing as the anti-hero, bullying my way to the top, I’d just end up feeling a little bit bad about myself.

I’m definitely keen to finish all the little side missions and the like, just to keep me ticking over until ME3 arrives.

So, sticking to your guns and then carry on the story. Good man! Aside from Uncharted 3 and next year’s Mass Effect 3, are there any other games ending in 3 that you’re looking forward to?

I don’t know about other tri-quels, but I’m pretty excited about Journey next year, which is sort of the third in a series.

Ah, yes. That got delayed just the other day. I was looking forward to that! I always feel that the third game should replace ‘e’ with ‘3’. Unchart3d, Mass 3ffect, Battl3field, Modern Warfar3… I really shouldn’t go on.

You’ll have been pleased with Wip3out then.

That one must have been planned well in advance, since the first game was WipEout, with a capial ‘e’. I like to ask people if there’s any games in their past that they’re particularly embarrassed or ashamed to have played. Perhaps a guilty pleasure or two?

Haha, I did own the Robot Wars game on the PS2, and have also been the owner of Harry Potter: Quidditch World cup. I have no excuses.

Those sound impressively bad.

They are both truly awful. I would recommend anyone considering purchasing either to rethink their life-choices.

Good advice, we’re more than happy to stage interventions here at TSA. How did you first come across TSA, and what made you sign up?

Well an old housemate of mine, Davs (who you might know as Djhsecondnature) had started visiting the site a few weeks earlier, and I was all like “Ooh hey what’s that? Shiny.” After that, the sheer welcoming loveliness of the community quickly sucked me in, with Photoshop Tennis being a particular draw at the time, as I recall.

Yeah, you’ve been involved since the dawn of time, I’m sure many people think. You’ve got that Avatar guide, to your credit too.

Haha yes that’s true. Award-winning avatar guide at that.

Did it win an award? I mean it’s good, but…

2009’s most helpful forum-member. Thank you very much.

Fancy that! Since you have been around forever, you’ve also seen all the features and blogs and articles on the front page. Which has been your favourite?

Lewis’s “Abridged Too Far” series was brilliant, and I loved the time-travelling microwave too. I think that the WeView series going on at the moment is a really nice way to get the community involved too.

WeView is always so positive, though! We need something that people can really hate on, one week.

Robot Wars for the PS2?

Sounds like a good candidate. Obviously, you were at EGX a fortnight ago and got to meet lots of TSA regulars, though they may not have known it. Is there anyone left that you didn’t meet but would still like to?

Well obviously our own liaison was only too brief, so maybe we could have a couple of beers next time. It was a shame Dan Lee and CC_star couldn’t make it down, it would have been nice to meet some more of the TSA family.

Did you hear that Adam and I are going to adopt Dan Lee?

I did not hear that. Congratulations on your new boy.

Mainly for his children. Twitter is a very strange place at times.

Haha, I won’t ask…

I’m not entirely sure myself. At EGX, you slightly famously proclaimed all TSA members to be TSAsians. However, I’ve heard what, to my ear, is a more pleasing alternative: TSAgents. As the final arbiter on this sort of thing (it would seem), would you be prepared to reconsider your previous decision?

TSAgents is much less nationality specific. I’m prepared to concede that’s a far better term for us all. TSAsians simply came from me misreading TSAians once.

I always that that made it sound like everyone was called Ian. Here’s a tricky question: who would you Snog, have a Civil Partnership with and smother out of Peter, Lewis and Kris? Obviously, you’ve met all three for real now, which probably makes it tougher.

Haha that’s true.

Ok, I’d snog Peter, have a civil partnership with Lewis, and sorry Kris, but that only leaves you for the smothering.

Is there a particular logic behind your choices? As much as logic can be applied to this?

Haha, well I think Kris’s insane amount of hard work would leave little time for a civil partnership, and I’ve known him outside of TSA for too long to go snogging him now, so that only leaves the smothering. I’m not sure why smothering is the only possible alternative in this situation.

I think I was going for the sibilant half-alliteration of the three options. It’s more than a week ago, so I can’t remember, to be honest. When you’re not gaming and also away from TSA, what else fills your time?

I record a fair amount of music, I’m currently taking singing lessons, and learning to drive (not simultaneously – that’d be dangerous). I’ve also started to design my own video game with the aim of creating it somewhere down the line.

Oh, that sounds very cool. What kind of a game is it?

Well I won’t reveal too much, but it’s going to be a platformer based on the theme of light versus dark.

I look forward to seeing more of it down the line. On the lines of music, Monday’s OMM Podcast was actually edited by yourself. How did it go?

Well it’s going quite well so far. At the time of writing I’m still only about half way through the edit, and I know Kris is a little on edge about letting go of the responsibility, so there are some big editing shoes to fill, and I intend on filling them to the brim. By the time you, the reader, are reading this though, you will hopefully have listened to the ‘cast and made your own judgements. I hope I did it justice!

Oh, way to shatter the illusion I was interviewing you live!

Yes the podcast editing went very well. The response I got from all the listeners was very positive.

Much better. We have, unfortunately, come to the end of the interview. Do either of your personas have anything to say to adoring fans?

I actually was in your room the whole time. Third sock from the left.

I felt a bit uncomfortable later on, as I wore that sock, and was rather conscious I might be doing some damage to Kev’s… Sock drawer. Thanks for a lovely interview Kev. Next week, we go to town with another audio interview! Yes, that is a hint.

  1. really funny read. Nice to know a little more about you drake…I mean Kev. I am also an owner of Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup, feel pity for me. Good luck with the singing.music and driving (I passed my test friday :))

  2. Have not read the article yet, but holy crap does he look like Drake!

  3. Great read, howdy dude…

  4. Haha, made me chuckle. Nice to meet you, again. Keep these articles coming!

  5. Great read. I have to admit that i was once the owner of quidditch world cup aswell but hey i was 10ish. Peter never seems to get smothered though.

    • I might get a T-shirt made up that simply says “Peter Never Dies” under a cut out image of Peter in a bath at the EGX house.

  6. Howdy, Kev :)

Funnily enough, Robot Wars: Arenas of Destruction was my first PS2 game…it was horrible, but it was a Robot Wars game, so I wasn’t complaining.

    • I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who made these awful choices!

    • Am I the only one who actually thought the Robot Wars game was ace?

      • Nope, I enjoyed it :)
        Nice to meet you kev!

      • I think I had it on PC and it was great! I also enjoyed Quidditch World Cup at a friend’s house, so maybe I’m just weird.

  7. Nice to meet you Draktron 400 ;)

I personally thought that Harry Potter Quiditch World Cup was a decent game. It’s something that you can pick up and play. Although since i’m a bit of a Harry Potter Fan, i may have been blinded by that at the times. I agree Robot Wars was crap.

Wish i was a master of disguise instead i have to use Stealth Camo which is usful but useless if there are any thermal heat devices in the room. Thus being the reason why i’ve been kicked out of the Mods clubs a trillion times so far. :op

I couldn’t tell the difference between you’re editing and Kris’s editing. Except from the sound effects, they are pretty much the same thing. Also i hope you remebered to use both question threads. ;)

  8. Brilliant read, and some quality comedy by Kev once again! :D

  9. How’s life treating you nowadays, Drake? I hear you’ve been on quite the adventure.

  10. Hi Kev. Great to meet you, fella. It’s always been an absolute pleasure commenting with you on the articles. One of TSA’s finest without a doubt.

    • Thank you very much! It’s weird that you would mention this in an article that features another Kevin besides me. Good thing I claimed it before it got too confusing! :D

    • You’re too kind, Mike! *blushes*
