WeView: God of War III

I didn’t choose God of War III for this week’s WeView because there’s a new game in the series coming out soon. Nor did I choose it because it’s one of my favourite games and I wanted to see what you thought. No; I chose God of War III because I’ve just finished Ghost of Sparta and I’m in the mood for writing about the series.

Not that I am going to write much about the game itself; I’ll leave that up to you. The final instalment (linearly, I mean) in the God of War series came out about a year and a half ago, so there’s bound to be an abundance of you wishing to submit short, snappy opinions for us to round-up and put up on the front page next week.

God of War III was a stellar end to the series, in my opinion; it was bigger, better and it did Kratos justice as his adventure came to an end. Alex thought so too, stating that it destroyed the competition in the genre, with tremendous scale, incredible visuals and a good length.

Old characters come into play, old wounds are reopened and old friends part ways, but this is an all-new game and one that kicks pretenders to the throne into touch: Bayonetta’s sexuality is already old hat, and Dante’s descent into Inferno doesn’t hold a candle to the sheer technical grunt on offer here.  Sure, we’ve already seen what Kratos is capable of, but this is the first time we’ve really seen what PlayStation 3 can do and thanks to Santa Monica Studios there won’t be a developer on the planet that isn’t looking at what’s been achieved here with envious eyes.

And there shouldn’t be a gamer that doesn’t get to experience their work.  Sublime.

Sublime indeed, and an absolutely marvellous achievement from Santa Monica; well, that’s what I think anyway. The actual verdict, of course, is up to you – only you can be the one to decide Kratos’ final fate.

So, dig out those thoughts you’ve had swimming around your head for the last year and a half and make sure to submit a godly post in the forums, leaving us your thoughts on the game. Whilst we’re not going to discount longer reviews, please remember that the aim is for short, snappy opinions. More than that we simply don’t have the time to wade through longer reviews, so if you want to have your opinion included in the verdict post try to keep it short.

Once you’ve written your review make sure you give it a score on the Buy It, Bargain Bin It, Rent It, Avoid It scale. Remember, if you want your score and opinion included in Monday’s verdict post you need to have it done by Sunday afternoon, otherwise the post’ll be written and you’ll be left out in the cold.

  1. Game was great, but Ghost of Sparta is better.

  2. There’s a new game in the series coming out soon?!

    • No, but that would usually be a reason for doing WeView.

  3. Just can’t bring myself to finish this game – Nothing pulls me back to it for some reason.

  4. Worst God of War? Platinumed it but every other God of War i played seemed better. Maybe not Chains of Olympus though.

  5. Dull, self indulgent twaddle.

    • You. Out. Now! :p

      • It has viewpoints. Since when did Kratos ever look at the nice cliffs? SELF INDULGENT TWADDLE.

  6. It started off with such a bang, but I felt that it couldn’t maintain that pace for the rest of the game.

  7. I loved it! That Cronos battle has to be seen by everyone!

  8. Brilliant game. Well all of them have been so far. PlayStation exclusives are the BEST;)

  9. I adore the series and this game in particular. The sheer scope of what the team at Santa Monica attempted was staggering. That they actually achieved it was mind blowing. All I can hope for in the future is that if there is indeed a God of War 4 that they leave the whole Kratos saga behind so as to not potentially ruin a solid ending to a great story.

  10. One of the greatest games I have ever played. Imo an absolute must for any gamer. A true epic outing in ps3 form…..
