GTA III Coming to Mobile

Rockstar has just announced that, in order to commemorate Grand Theft Auto III’s tenth birthday, the game will be released on a number of mobile platforms.

There’s also a Slideshow action figure, complete with costumes and intricate little weapons, to mark the occasion.

The full list of devices that will see the release is below, and there’s a slideshow of images on the Rockstar site to show off the figure.

This is great news, although I’m unsure how the controls will translate to a touchscreen. I suppose some smug Android user is going to tell me they can pair their DualShock 3 to their Android tablet but if you do, be warned: I’ll ask Siri where I can hire a hitman when I get my iPhone 4S.

Vice City next, please!

  1. The Gameloft clones were fine, this is great news.

  2. Just posted this as a news tip, damn your quickness, cb :P

Can’t wait for te iOS release

    • 1: That’s what she said.
2: It is a good sign of things to come… Vice City and San Andreas were superior games, hopefully they’ll arrive too. Oh, and Bully could presumably come over too! I’d really like some sort of pad support though. I wish iPad2 could do that.

      • 1: Perfect timing on the “That’s what she said” joke.
2: I can pair my DualShock 3 controller to my Android tablet
3: It will probably be useless since the game has to support it.
4: You: Siri, where can I hire a Hitman?
        Siri: http://outthere.whatitcosts.com/hire-hitman.htm

      • I was hoping I could keep telling Siri “it’s your round”.

Personally I hope the Rockstar floodgates now open and it means we get some HD remakes on the PS3.

  3. Kind of makes you think, If they are doing an edition for mobile.

Will a HD remake be in the works for GTA III, Vice City & San Andreas?

    • Or a PSVita version?
      *crosses fingers*

    • Isn’t GTA IV a super HD remake of GTA III…but vast difference?

      • No, no it is not.

GTA III & Vice City were fun. GTA IV (& to a lesser extent San Andreas) was not. IMO of course.

      • I found that too, used to spend hours on Vice City, then didn’t really play the others much at all, found them constraining and boring..

      • if you grew up with GTA it went to the right place imo.

      • I just play San Andreas.. and I miss the new stuff in the older games.. An HD remake is ok.. but making a new game out of the city is much much better, GTA IV… isn’t the way, just fell a bit short. imo

      • For me, they hit the formula perfectly with Vice City – Loads to do, still lots of fun & the humour was brilliant (plus the 80’s radio was just classic!).

I personally feel that when you had to do such menial tasks as dating & building body mass, they went too far & sucked all of the fun out of it.

Again, just my opinion & i know others will disagree, but i had a ton more fun with III & Vice City than i did with latter iterations.

  4. Fab news!

  5. PSN or STFU!!

  6. Can I get GTA I, II or London on Mobile?

    • I don’t think so but you can get them free from Rockstar’s site on PC. :)

    • Yes, FPse on Android is fantastic. Been playing lots of Gran Turismo 2 on my Desire lately.

  7. CURSE MY CRAPPY POS PHONE! As i know for a fact that it would burst into flames if i even dared to try and run it.

I wonder if a PSN/XBLA version is in the works? But GTA isn’t really the best game to play on a phone due to it’s length and i think the controls may be awful. I could be wrong.

  8. GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas as PS3 HD Classics would be ace! Here’s hoping!

    • Agreed – I have said many a time that i would give my right arm to have this collection.

A bit of an oversight on my part with that statement really, as i wouldn’t be able to play very well without a right arm. Or do anything else ‘interesting’ for that matter!

Still, might help my eyesight! :)

    • Yeah, would be amazing.

Then release the PSP games Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories and Chinatown Wars as GTA HD Classics 2, just like the God of War Collections!

  9. Don’t play games on my mobile very often (only played angry birds) but this could change that.

  10. Just wait until some random person commits a crime and it’s revealed that they had GTA on their phone. The media would love it!
