According to a recent PlayStation Vita FAQ posted by SCEJ, the firm’s upcoming handheld will not support PsOne Classics or TurboGrafx-16 games downloaded from the PlayStation Store.
The FAQ states that PSP software downloaded from the store will carry over with the exception of Game Archive titles. Sony has said that it will address the issue in more detail at a later date.

No FFVII on Vita – WTF?! How ridiculous since they’ve stopped doing anything decent for the PSP and just rehash/rerelease PSOne games, which now can’t even be played on the next handheld!! I would play a PSOne classic on the go on a small screen but wouldn’t play them on my 40″ TV through my PS3, so the fact they can still be purchase for PS3 doesn’t hold any argument with me.
It’ll probably be an excuse to say they’re moving forward yet they’ll release a whole load of PS2 “classics”, and milk that. I really can’t see any logic in this.

If this is true then they better start offering something for PS Vita owners on PSN+ then or what’s the point upgrading?
Not best pleased at Sony tho. This is the first bit of news that has made me think twice about buying the Vita. I expect it to play all the stuff my PSP does.

Agreed – and especially as it’s not backwards compatible with UMDs.

Why even buy a psv if you just want to play psp stuff? People really need to move on…
kivi95
oh and they are actually offering minis ;) , And PSN + is mostly for ps3.

You could say the same about Resident Evil 4 and Ico being released on PS3 via the Store – some people want to be able to. It just seems like a strange choice given that people will have most likely bought some PSOne games via PSN, and it would be nice to play them on the move, especially when the Vita can clearly handle those games with ease.

Monster Hunter, Dissida, Peacewalker, Tekken 6, Soul Caliber, Phantasy Star,Gensan,Prinnys,JRPGS, Sega, Neogeo..
They’re amazing man…
sparkyscrum
Because Sony encouraged people to buy PSP stuff in the sale to play on their PS Vita so Sony have encouraged people themselves.

Of the PSOne Classics I’ve got, I find they’re rubbish on the PSP because of the lack of the second analogue stick.
Sony, this makes no sense whatsoever.
Kennykazey
That’s crappy of them.

This is a bad choice to make Sony. Didn’t you learn when you took BC away from the PS3?
If i was a PSP owner who had a massive libary of PS1 games, i would be pissed. I hope it is a mistranlation and they actaully meant that PS2 titles from the store won’t be playable.
moshi
If I had a massive Library I would look up my dictionary.
Sympozium
Yes 40… maybe more, would be mean.
moshi
You can keep your rose tinted PS1 games, they look more and more dated by the day.
Bodachi
Hmmmm seems odd, perhaps support will be patched in. Maybe its because they are trying to push the system out the door and they would have to check each game individually.
Crocadillian
I can understand this, they did enough by upscaling PSP games and supporting them, as well as the many other features they have added. If they hadn’t given the PS Vita all the fantastic features it has I would be angry, but its fine :).
TROPtastic
I hope it’s just a translation error, otherwise this would suck.
rossthebassist
Im in hope its a translation issue. whilst people are saying it about moving forward. i agree, however a main benifit to the vita was to trade my old PSP in safe in the knowledge that the VITA would accept my PSP downloads which include psone classics. i still enjoy tekken 2 and resident evil on my psp and whislt im all for these new experiances we will get. i want to continue enjoying my old one too.
