Shaky phone-cam footage of Grand Theft Auto 3 running on an iPad has emerged from New York Comic-Con.
Originally released on PlayStation 2 in 2001, the game will soon be available for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. The video shows the new control scheme which has been simplified for the iOS devices.

I wonder which version of the game has been ported over. Certainly, the PS2 version should have been easily manageable on an A4 based device, shouldn’t they? Though I guess they are definitley pushing much higher resolutions than the PS2 ever did.

If I hadn’t played it already I might be tempted but it hasn’t aged well especially when you think of how each sequel has been evolutionary steps. I think you’d get annoyed at how little he can do in this one (no climbing, swimming, motorbikes etc)

Agreed. I have played Liberty City to death a bit as well with GTA1, LC Stories, GTA4 and Chinatown Wars.

The game will come at a later date to other iOS devices; which ones, nobody knows. May only be the iPhone 4, which is the only single core device with the 512MB of RAM like the 4S and iPad 2.
Also there is confusion over which version of the game it is. Two different reps have spoken of this, one saying is the PS2 version, the other saying its the PC version.

If I remember right, GTA3 was a weird game, in that the PS2 and PC versions were very similar, but the Xbox version, which was released a year or so later, had proper real time reflections on the car… and most likely some other differences after such a long port time.
So I assume we’ll be getting the PC/PS2 version.

Imo, the controls look awful. But that may be because i dislike touchscreen and sometimes feel like a pervert whilst using it. I hope GTA3-SA get rereleased on the store at some point as buttons suit these games.
