Last week Konami put up a teaser on the MGS HD site.
Well, Konami has now unveiled their big ‘surprise.’ Are you sure you’re ready?
Konami has announced that Haruna Kojima, member of pop group AKB48, will be the face of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection’s promotional campaign.
The whole play on the Spring theme? Well Haru means Spring in Japanese and was just a play on Haruna’s name.

Here’s some extra inside info from our pop correspondent, Tuffcub:
AKB48 are named after Akihabara, the area in Tokyo where the band’s own theater is located. The group consists of four Teams with Teams A, K and B having 16 girls and Team 4 having eleven members making 59 girls in the entire group. Since 2009 the have had ten number one singles in Japan and are ridiculously popular.
Outside of their country they are virtually unheard of so Kojima’s big reveal has had less of an impact.

I’m sure this will raise awareness of the MGS HD Collection massively… In Japan. Bit disappointed it wasn’t something more relevent to me, but she is pretty cute so I find it hard to be too annoyed about this. They should chuck her in Peacewalker as a potential recruit/sexual harassment lawsuit.

for japan this might be a big deal, i’ve never this group so i have no idea if they’re popular in japan or not but i would assume they’re fairly well known.
and i would imagine she would only be promoting the game in japan anyway so it won’t be relevant to anywhere else.

I hadn’t heard of them until I went to Japan earlier this year. They are absolutely massive over there. They’re the face of everything that needs advertising, and it seems to work, so this will probably ensure good sales in Japan at least.

Could you not have worded the title a bit differently? I got really excited at this: thinking that maybe at the last minute Konami had managed to clinch a deal with Silicon Knights to convert MGS:Twin snakes or something like that. Hope given and snatched away all in a couple of seconds.Ah well.
