Game Of Thrones Action RPG Announced

Atlus has announced a Game of Thrones Action RPG  for PS3, Xbox 360 & PC, due to be released early in 2012.

The game will be made in collaboration with Cyanide Studios, who worked on the Game of Thrones RTS and HBO, who hold the rights to the TV series. The better news is that George R R Martin, author of the A Song of Ice & Fire series, will supervise the story to make sure it stays faithful to the series. The press release also states:

“In this 30-plus hour action RPG, players will enter the gritty and medieval fantasy world of Westeros.  As one of two original characters with disparate motivations, both former soldiers of Robert’s Rebellion, players will forge alliances and wage battles as they play a pivotal role in the ongoing war for power of the Seven Kingdoms.  Their journey will span numerous quests, during which they will interact with many characters and make key decisions that impact the realm. “

The press release also confirms that characters from the series will play a part in the plot and the player will interact with them, traveling throughout Westeros from King’s Landing to The Wall. James Costo, Vice Presisent of HBO Global Licensing, said:

“This is a wonderful way for fans to engage with the brand in an exciting and interactive way. ATLUS and Cyanide are leaders in developing world class games with broad accessibility so the partnership was an ideal fit for us.”

There’s an official site for the Game of Thrones RPG. Having just finished Book Five of the series I am hoping this will be great.

  1. Too soon…it will be shit. Look how long between oblivion and skyrim

    • Exactly right, and 30+ hours? I’ve got over 80 on fallout 3, and still haven’t finished the main quest, and have plenty to do… better than 5 I suppose!

  2. Doesn’t matter if it would be close to the series (which I don’t watch) but importantly, a good game. The RTS had negetive reviews so with this “action RPG” I’d hope if they’d make a good game, but then you have Dark Souls and Skyrim….

  3. I’m in. I’m so totally in.

Bit worried that they’re rushing to release games so they can ride the popularity of the TV show though. But still… A Song of Ice & Fire…

    • Wouldn’t it be amazing if the game was to celebrate the release of the next book in the series?

      • That would be the best thing ever! Amazon are showing the next book on their system but still no release date…

    • yes… too soon and too cheaply were those rights sold. you know nothing ser martin. oh and don’t expect book 6, ‘the winds of winter’ for a while. certainly not while george is busy doing other things. pfft.

  4. Still waiting for my reserved copy from the library… It’s only been two months.

Hope this is good, if it is then I will get it for sure.

  5. i really have to read those books one day.

    • You really should. I picked up Books 1 to 4 in Asda for about £15. Book 5 is sitting at around £12.50 on Amazon.

  6. Am I the only person who got really bloody bored while watching the TV series. I honestly thought it was boring pap. (still watched it all though…. mainly for the blonde and louise from Hollyoaks, I could have sworn they were gonna get it on!)

    • Yeah louise from hollyoaks! I enjoyed them two very much ;)

  7. Loved the TV series and have enough faith in the production team to lay off the books and see what they put together first. Will certainly be looking into the game too.

  8. Do you get to ‘play’ with Daenerys Targaryen?
